Sometimes we all have dark days. They can come out of seemingly nowhere and leave us feeling worn down and flustered. Backlash was our dark day. We, as WWE fans have had better days, even if it doesn’t feel like it. We will make it through. And remember…we still have Seth Rollins! Raw, hopefully, will be a good lead off to Money in the Bank season. Hopes aren’t high, but it could lead us to the promise land…
Raw starts out with old Uncle Kurt! He walks past the ladders that someone left out there on accident, I doubt that was foreshadowing right?? Kurt welcomes everyone to RAW. He praises WWE, the crowd semi agrees, and Kurt goes on to talk about Money in the Bank. Two MITB matches like last year. Uncle Kurt is excited and says there are two qualifying matches tonight. Triple Threat: Ember Moon, Ruby Riott, and Sasha Banks. The other is another Triple Threat with Roman, Finn Balor, and Sami Zayn. Braun comes out, most likely to congratulate Kurt on saying his lines perfectly. The crowd encourages Braun to give hands to someone. Not Uncle Kurt. Braun talks about treehouses and his distaste for them. Kevin Owens now comes out saying he deserves a shot at MITB. Kevin complains about he follows the rules and how his match last night was crap. Kevin says Braun needs to be in the corner because he’s a BAD MONSTER! They all bicker for a while then Uncle Kurt makes a MITB qualifier between Braun Strong guy and Kevin Owens, and its right now!! Well….I mean after the first commercial.
Braun Strowman vs. Kevin Owens:
Kevin does his best from the start to attack Braun but I mean come on, its Braun. Kevin runs away, heads back into the ring, then gets a monster club and is taken out. Braun throws Kevin into the ring post and he hits it haaaard. Ouch. Owens gets another one. Braun tries to steamroll KO in the corner but Kevin blocks with a boot. Braun takes exception to this and punches him off the ringpost and to the outside. Braun slips outside and starts to run but Kevin jumps out of the outside. Kevin counters Brauns attempt to throw him back to ringside by hitting a nice DDT. 7 count but Braun makes it back into the ring. Kevin looks distraught. The crowd wants Strowman to deliver hands to Kevin Owens. He does. Kevin then dodges another Strowman charge. The ref counts again. Back in at 8. Commercial *eye roll* Aaaand we’re back. Kevin is slightly in control but Braun wakes up and Kevin catches a chokeslam. Surprisingly this has been a good match. Kevin gets spurts of offense and he makes great use of it. Can’t quite get the win though. Kevin hits a ridiculous frog splash off the top but Braun kicks! Alright! Great match to start off RAW! Kevin tries a pop up Powerbomb on Braun but that doesn’t work lol. Kevin ends up outside. Braun, and the crowd, gets pumped as Braun runs over Kevin like a freight train. Holy crap. Kevin is dead. 3 hits by the bad monster. RIP Kevin. Braun hits the running powerslam annnd the win.
Winner by HOLY SHIT KEVIN OWENS IS DEAD!: Braun Strowman
Mike Rome is backstage with Roman Reigns. Roman doesn’t look too happy despite being victorious last night. Roman is still upset about Greatest Royal Rumble. Jeez Roman, you’ll get another shot, calm down. Roman talks trash about his former opponents and he’s pissed off! He thinks he’s going to win Money in the Bank. Mike Rome doesn’t get a chance to answer any of his statements. Not good reporting Mike Rome…Or should I say Todd Phillips!
Phone promo with Bayley annnnnd Breezango.
Uncle Kurt is backstage with Goldendust. He wants to qualify for MITB. Jinder Mahal enters and says HE wants a shot at MITB! Jinder is extra sweaty and Uncle Kurt doesn’t like it. Kurt says Jinder doesn’t get to worry about MITB until after Jinder’s match with Chad Gable.
No Way Jose and Titus World Wide come down to the ring. Apparently there is a match of some sort. 6 man tag….oh joy.
No Way Jose and Titus World Wide vs. Baron Corbin and the Revival:
Highlights as usual since I despise 6 man tags:
- Baron looks extra greasy today
- Apollo Crews severely needs a push of some sort.
- Same goes for the Revival. Both are fantastic in the ring.
- Jose has the most momentum considering he has only been in squash matches.
- Apollo has one of the best kip ups
Jose takes his first lose after an End of Days from Baron Corbin
Winner by ending the silliness: Baron Corbin and the Revival
They show some Backlash stats from last night. We don’t want to think about this WWE. Stop it.
Sasha Banks vs. Ember Moon vs. Ruby Riott:
Ruby Riott starts out strong. This girl could be champion, no doubt. Ember and Sasha put on a good showing. Sasha is hit or miss for me. This match, she’s hit. Ember fits right in with the two. Sarah Logan grabs Ember’s foot at one point which gives Ruby the advantage. Ember Moon and Ruby Riott seemed to have the best back and forth and the crowd really got into it. Ruby hits a crazy Hurricanrana off the top rope, reversed into a pin attempt but its broken up by Riott Squad. Bayley comes out for the save but gets beat down. Ember Moon hits a double Eclipse and qualifies for MITB.
Winner by top rope nonsense: Ember Moon
Backstage is Ember Moon with Charlie. She talks about her win tonight and MITB. Not my favorite promo in the world.
Backstage interview with Bobby Lashley and North America’s Sweetheart, Renee Young.
Backstage back and forth Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, playing up on tension that they have.
Jinder Mahal vs. Chad Gable:
Chad takes control early, using his speed to counter Jinder’s size and strength but it eventually catches up with him. They made a point of saying that Jinder hasn’t had a win since he’s been on RAW so possible foreshadowing?! The announce table seems to have little interest in the match itself, they do try to highlight each wrestler though. Gable hits a monstrous MoonSault on Mahal but doesn’t get the pin. Jinder ends up hitting the big knee and goes for a gorilla press but Gable counters to a roll up. No win but still impressive. Jinder powers up and hits his finisher for the win. The crowd isn’t too interested but it is what it is.
Winner by hitting a finisher that I cant spell: Jinder Mahal
Jinder attacks Gable after the match… for no real reason. No Jason Jordon though. Bummer.
Backstage Phone promo with Alexa Bliss and the Ascension. Not together but one after the other…though I mean it’d be interesting to see Alexa Bliss go to the Wasteland.
Zack Ryder is backstage with Uncle Kurt! He wants a shot! Jinder interrupts and says he should be added to the Triple Threat! Kurt says no and Zack doesn’t get an answer….
Heath Slater and Rhyno vs. Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler:
Slater and Rhyno get a good start in what will most likely end bad for them. When Drew finally gets in he has a commanding presence. Heath gets a few punches in before everything goes sour. They hit the Claymore/Zig Zag combo for the win.
Winner by the power of Grey Skull: Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler
Raw has seemed to flatten out as we get closer to the third hour. With the Triple Threat looming and Roman Reigns impending win inbound, one can only sit and wonder what till really happen.
Out comes Elias to do Elias things. Elias is oddly over considering he doesn’t really wrestler or win that often. I love it. Anyways, he talks about winning MITB and the crowd chants Rusev Day. Bobby Roode interrupts, not shaking his butt like last night.
Bobby Roode vs. Elias:
Roode starts out strong, looking GLORIOUS over Elias. We get a commercial right away. Elias took control over the commercial break (surprise surprise) and maintains that for a while after we get back from the break. Elias hits a beautiful looking powerbomb but Booby kicks! The slow pace of the match was broken, just for a minute, with that powerbomb. Roode ends up getting the win with a Glorious DDT.
Winner by most spray tan on in the ring: Bobby Roode
Charlie interviews a very tired and victorious Robert Roode. He talks about winning tonight and how he should be in MITB.
Seth Rollins comes down to the ring to talk about his match last night at *Insert PPV that we never speak of* and applauds the Miz. The crowd, Long Island, the whole of the world loves Seth Rollins. He says he wants to be a better champion than the Miz, a fighting champion. He talks about MITB and says the title is his focus, not the briefcase. He wants to create an opportunity for someone else but issuing an open challenge for the IC title. I love this. Out comes Mojo Rawley lol. Mojo says this is the Raw debut he deserves. The crowd chants we want Ryder. Up until this point I forgot they had a feud. He says no longer is the Monday Night Rollins, its Monday Night Rawley. Seth says come on down and get your ass kicked, son!
Seth Rollins vs. Mojo Rawley:
Mojo gets a good start but Seth shows his expertise by out maneuvering him. Mojo is knocked out of the ring. Seth goes to attack him but ends up missing and catching a clothesline from behind, then gets slammed into the barricade by a large, angry Mojo Rawley. Back from commercial and Mojo is still controlling this match. Seth finally gets the upperhand, throwing Mojo into the second rope turnbuckle. Rollins gets on his usual roll, hitting a suicide dive and yelling a lot. He hits a wonderful Blockbuster but Mojo kicks out. Mojo hits a big spine buster but Seth kicks. The back and forth is intense. Mojo is putting on a great match, Seth almost always does but Mojo, in particular, is looking great. Mojo hits a gorilla press sort of thing and almost gets the 3 count on Seth! Mojo gets hyped but Rollins catches him with a few super kicks and the Curb Stomp for the win.
Winner by Burning it Down! Seth Rollins
Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel vs. The Deleter of Worlds:
Bray stands, with his back to Axel, waiting for him to attack, then destroys him with a clothesline. Matt tags in and goes at it with Axel. Axel and Bo get a good double team going on Hardy while Bray paces on the ring apron. Bray gets the tag and lays into Curtis Axel. Both Matt and Bray hit a new finisher that looks like a double Sister Abigail.
Winner by DELETION: Bray Wyatt and Matt Hardy
Phone promos by Natalya and Baron Corbin.
Finn Balor vs. Sami Zayn vs. Roman Reigns:
Sami talks shit to Roman right off the bat and Roman gives him a right hand for his troubles. Roman takes control of Finn early. Roman cleared the ring. Both Finn and Sami go after Roman as the crowd gets hyped. They keep going after Roman and the crowd loves it. The match continues outside as Sami and Finn take it to Roman out in the seating areas. Roman starts to come back and the crowd isn't happy. Sami hits a Helluva kick on Roman, sending him over a barricade. Finn hits the Coup de Gras then gets attacked by Sami. Things head back to the ring side area while Roman is out near the control equipment. Sami and Finn Balor battle in the ring! Sami hits a Blue Thunder Bomb but Finn kicks out at 2. Finn and Sami trade blows with Finn connecting with a Pele Kick. Finn gets thrown out of the ring and looks like he hurt his leg. Annnnd he seems fine as he hits the Sling Blade to Sami on the outside. Sami ends up hitting a big boot and we're back to even. Roman is apparently stirring on the side and flies in, beating Sami Zayn down. Roman beats the hell out of Sami but gets hit by Finn last minute. Finn goes up for the Coup de Gras but misses and gets an exploder suplex from Sami. Sami tries to pump up the crowd for a Helluva kick and gets a Superman punch. Roman goes for a spear and gets a Sling Blade from Balor. Roman reverses and hits a Super man punch. Jinder Mahal trips up Roman, allowing for Finn to hit the Coup de Gras on Sami and get the win!
Winner by French named Finishing move: Finn Balor
That's it for Raw this week folks. Sorry if it was a little more all over the place than usual, I had the Caps game on as well. Raw, overall, was pretty alright. Finn and Ember Moon qualify for Money in the Bank. Check out our site for more wrestling goodies, follow me on Twitter, and as always, Take Care!
