It’s all come to this. A stormy, chaotic year in the WWE has led to this moment, Wrestlemania. The Showcase of the Immortals, the Granddaddy of them all! This is the time of the year to bring it to the table and leave it all hanging out. This years Wrestlemania is about 7 hours long from start to finish and, arguably, one of the best cards we’ve seen in a while. This is also the first Wrestlemania that I and my wife have attended so it’ll always hold a special place in my heart. But enough of the mushy nonsense, lets talk predictions.
Today, we’ll start from the top and work our way down. Keep in mind, these are my opinions and predictions and may vary from what my Wrestling With Wrestling family may feel. That being said here we go:
Universal Champion Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns
Oddly enough, though we’ve seen this before, im actually very excited for this. The build for Lesnar vs Reigns has been built we’ll enough that fans and marks alike should get some enjoyment. My pick is Roman for the sheer fact that im ready for the pain to be over. Lets have the Universal Title on the show more than once or twice every few weeks. Roman has put on incredible matches lately (something I’d never think id say) and he, barring any unforeseen events, will be a weekly staple on Raw
My Pick: Roman Reigns
WWE Champion AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
This is my match. Aside from Daniel Bryan returning to the ring, This match is the only one I really am invested in. I don’t like how the build hasn’t consisted on any real finesse, other than the last two weeks of Shinsuke and AJ messing with each other. This is Shinsuke’s time to live up to the hype that surrounded him in NXT. He had incredible matches in NJPW and in NXT but hasn’t achieved such greatness on the main roster. Uncle Alan almost always puts on great matches so I expect this one to be the show stealer. Id love to see Shinsuke win, only if he gets a mouth piece afterwards to help with promos.
My Pick: Shinsuke Nakamura
Kurt Angle & Ronda Rousey vs. Triple H & Stephanie McMahon
Ronda Rousey’s debut is the biggest part of this match. Kurt Angle, Triple H, and Stephanie McMahon are just full for the Ronda hype train. I personally hope she kills it and earns her place here. This is something she’s always wanted to do and it isn’t easy to go out there after she’s already we’ll known. Opinions have been formed and she has a uphill battle but with the star power she’ll be in the ring with she should flourish and be able to stand on her feet soon enough.
My Pick: Kurt Angle & Ronda Rousey
Daniel Bryan & Shane McMahon vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn
Daniel Bryan’s return has been the highlight of this month’s long feud. Im surpised that Shane is wrestling after his surgery so, honestly, I expect that Daniel will be doing a lot of the leg work for his team. Kevin and Sami has such uncertain futures on Smackdown Live that I don’t know if it would almost be a good thing that they lose. I believe in Kevin and Sami as performers and would love to see them win but a lose could enable them to move over to Raw come the Superstar Draft and add more longevity to their careers here in the WWE Universe. I heartily believe Daniel Bryan and Shane will win though and I will most certainly chant my ass off for him.
My Pick: Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon
SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair vs. Asuka
This, like Shinsuke and AJ, is a bit of a dream match. Not in the sense like we’ve been waiting for it forever, but we have the two best women’s wrestlers on the roster, going head to head. Streak vs. Title. Charlotte, time and time again, puts on stellar matches and Asuka…well she’ll just Asuka. If they give this match a decent amount of time then we could have a rival for one of the best women’s matches in the last 10 years. Asuka will continue the streak all the way until next Wrestlemania!
My Pick: Asuka
SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos vs. The New Day vs. The Bludgeon Brothers (Triple Threat Match)
The New Day vs the Usos was one of my favorite feuds last year. Both teams put on incredible matches with beautiful storytelling and athletics that have been hard to rival. The addition of the Bludgeon Brothers will add an interesting dynamic to a match that already could have been great. The hard hitting style of the Bludgeon Brothers could be a good counter to Uso’s high flying and New Day’s hybrid ragtag style. I have a hard time getting behind the idea of the Bludgeon Brothers winning the titles so its between the Usos and New Days. Ill put my money on Usos retaining the titles in the first *Main Card* Wrestlemania experience.
My Pick: The Usos
Intercontinental Champion The Miz vs. Seth Rollins vs. Finn Bálor
Another match that could be a contender for show stealer. Finn Balor and Seth Rollins put on great matches in the last few weeks, Miz has too. Each person brings a unique element to the match, each man is over enough to get a huge reaction, and each of them deserves a win. I do not believe Miz will retain so that he can take off time to spend with his wife and newborn. Finn has been titleless since his injury at the hands of Seth Rollins and his talent alone is enough to garner him one of the most prestigious belts in the WWE. Seth Rollins is….well he is Seth. The IC title is the last piece of the puzzle to make Rollins the Grand Slam Champion. Rollins also elevates whatever title he has on him. He had a great WWE Champion run, along with the US title. He carried the Tag Championships with Reigns and Jason Jordon, being the main player in both storylines. This choice is hard.
My Pick: Seth Rollins
United States Champion Randy Orton vs. Bobby Roode vs Jinder Mahal vs. Rusev (Fatal 4-Way Match)
Logic says that: Since Rusev is so over with the crowd, so good in the ring, and incredible in general, that he should win this US title and ride his wave of success to the end of time. WWE logic, in my opinion, will go like this: Randy wont retain. He’s had many Wrestlemania moments and has better things to do like challenge Shinsuke for the WWE title after Wrestlemania. So that leaves Jinder Mahal and Bobby Roode. Jinder has been riding a wave of wins lately and seems to be the least likely to win, which makes him the most likely to win according to WWE booking. I don’t know how I’d feel about it but currently, the US title has fallen flat which is a shame.
My Pick: Jinder Mahal
Sheamus & Cesaro vs. Braun Strowman and a partner of his choosing
This match has so much potential. Braun winning the tag titles by himself would have been funny, but they’ve built up that someone will be there with him, which leads us to a giant question mark. Here are a few ideas for who he could team with: A returning Neville, A returning Big Cass, Rey Mysterio for no reason, James Ellsworth just for fun, Gordon Ramsey, Donald Trump, That plant that Dean Ambrose had a few years back, Dolph Ziggler dressed as Colonel Sanders, or ME. It doesn’t matter who the partner is. Braun isn’t going to win. The Bar will retain, in one way or another, and that’s that.
My Pick: The Bar
Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss vs. Nia Jax
Off the bat, ill say that I am not excited about this match. The build to this is based off of Alexa talking trash about Nia, and Nia hearing it. Alexa being a bully and Nia gets a match. Its that simple. Its contrary to the Be a Star thing that WWE strives for and its just lazy writing. Im no professional writer by any means but damn guys. Nia deserves a title so she’ll be my pick but honestly its disappointing that this is the best story they can come up with.
My Pick: Nia Jax
John Cena vs. Undertaker? Maybe?
The build for this maybe match has been incredible but waiting until Wrestlemania to see if he actually shows or not is silly. While I would love to see Taker up close and personal, I want it to be because he can put on a great show. If we don’t get a Dead Man id like to see Big Match John face someone, maybe Samoa Joe? Or they can debut a new WWE superstar? Or a returning WWE superstar who does movies and isn’t the Rock??!
If the match happens, Taker wins it.
My Pick: Taker
Cedric Alexander vs. Mustafa Ali (WWE Cruiserweight Championship Tournament Finals)
(WrestleMania Kickoff Match)
Im a little sad this match is on the Pre Show but just being on the show at all is still nothing to sneeze at. These two will battle to hell and back and it will be a classic. Mustafa Ali is incredible in all that he does. Cedric Alexander is hands down the best cruiserweight in the division. If I had to pick id go with Alexander.
My Pick: Cedric Alexander
Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal (WrestleMania Kickoff Match)
There are about 450 people in the Battle Royal this year so expect some random returns, probably some legends, and NXT call ups. Im actually on board with the idea of the Revival winning the whole thing as a team but I doubt it will happen. Barring any random swerve id say that we will probably have a BROKEN winner this year
My Pick: Matt Hardy
The first-ever WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal Match (WrestleMania Kickoff Match)
Im excited for this one. This puts the rest of the women that aren’t currently spoken for in a big match on the big stage. Id love to see someone from Absolution or the Riott Squad win. My guess will be….
My Pick: Ruby Riott
