If you didn’t know before you watched, Daniel Bryan was cleared to wrestle again in the WWE. I left work Tuesday being the most excited I’ve ever been for a Smackdown in as long as I can remember. Smackdown did not disappoint.
Daniel Bryan comes down to the ring. This entire segment is hard to put into words so I’ll attach a link at the end so you can watch it. Bryan thanks everyone for the support, love, and the drive to keep going. He gets choked up. I got choked up. I’m not crying…you are. Anyways, watch it HERE because I cant do it justice.
After this point, it seemed a little hard to hold on to the thought of Smackdown being about anything else other than Bryan, but alas, that changed.
Rusev (with Aiden English) vs Shinsuke Nakamura:
This match had good time and was entertaining, though it seemed to be pretty cut and paste from the match at FastLane. Both men hit the usual spots and the crowd seemed particularly fired up still from Daniel Bryan moments earlier. AJ Styles was at ringside to observe as the match went on. Real take aways from this are Rusev taking another loss before even having a WrestleMania match in place has to be as disheartening to him as it was to me. Shinsuke gets the roll up for the win.
Winner: Shinsuke Nakamura
After the match, Shinsuke gets attacked by English and Rusev. Styles watches and slowly gets up but Nakamura took care of the meddlesome bad guys all by himself.
Backstage we get Charlotte and Natalya. Natalya antagonizes Charlotte about her mania match, which ends up with Charlotte challenging her to a match for tonight.
Another backstage segment! This time with Shinsuke and Styles. They trade barbs and Nakamura says Knee 2 Face again. Nothing to get excited about here.
Baron Corbin vs Tye Dillinger:
This was my least favorite match. It was a longer than usual squash match. Baron can be a credible threat if he has a credible opponent. Baron hits the end of days for the win.
Winner: Baron Corbin
Next is Charlotte coming to the ring
Charlotte Flair vs Natalya
These two women put on a hell of a match. Natalya had many close pinfalls here agains the champion. Charlotte made her comeback though and this actually looked like a battle. The crescendo of the match was a Superplex off the top rope by Nattie. Masterful work. As both women are laid out we hear Carmella’s music. She runs down to the ring with her Money in the Bank briefcase. The crowd explodes. She gives the briefcase to the ref but Charlotte gives her a boot and she falls out of the ring. Natalya rolls up Charlotte and gets the win.
Holy crap… my heart stopped for a minute.
The Uso ‘s cut a promo on the Bludgeon Brothers and their match at WrestleMania. This leads into a match.
Luke Harper vs Jimmy Uso
Like the Baron Corbin match, this was just a longer than usual squash fest. Jimmy gets in some good spots but is brought down by Harper’s Power. Luke gets the win with the discuss clothesline
Winner: Luke Harper
Next, Jinder Mahal and Sunil Singh are in the ring. He cuts a pretty heel promo about how the crowd are hypocrites and how he brought glory back to the WWE World heavyweight title. He rags on the people a little more before Bobby Roode enters. He says he’ll beat Jinder at Mania to win his title back and it will be …. Randy Orton interrupts. Randy tells Jinder to shut up and says he couldn’t win without his little stooge (Sunil). Jinder dips out and Sunil gets a middle rope DDT for his troubles. Bobby hits a Glorious DDT on Sunil, then tries on Orton, who reverses and tries a RKO, which Roode slips away from. All that anticipation but no RKO. Sad times
Becky Lynch and Naomi vs Sara Logon and Liv Morgan
This was a surprisingly quick match considering the matches these ladies have put on in the past few weeks. Becky, with the exception of a few moments, pretty much ran the show, winning with a DisArmher on Sarah Logan. I really wish I had more to say about this but it was quick and left me wanting more (lol)
Winner: Becky Lynch and Naomi
Backstage...Daniel Bryan is told Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens have arrived. He heads towards the ring
In the ring we have Daniel. Sami and Kevin make their way down. Both men go on to congratulate Daniel for being able to wrestle again in the WWE and go on to praise him. Daniel thanks them but says he's sorry for what he has to do. DB goes on to fire both Sami and Kevin for their actions against Shane McMahon. Daniel holds his hand out, Sami shakes it, Kevin paces back and forth then attacks Daniel. Sami and Kevin have the numbers but Daniel has the spirit. Daniel Bryan hits ridiculous corner knees, then finishes it off with Yes! kicks in the middle of the ring. Just as the last kick is making its way around to Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn comes back in and the numbers game takes back over. The pair beat Daniel outside of the ring, finishing with a nasty looking apron powerbomb. The boos are deafening. Smackdown ends.
Well folks, it was an emotional one for sure. We have more progression towards Wrestlemania, a "Almost!" MITB cash in, and the return of the Bearded one. Follow me on twitter @buuurch1, or the W3 twitter @wrestlingwithW, check out more fun things on the website here, and as always, Take Care!
