Extreme Rules 2018 basically had no legs to stand on going into it. It’s a minor PPV before the all-important SummerSlam. My wife and I made the journey up to Pittsburgh since its about an hour and a half away. While the show wasn’t close to selling out there were quite a few people there and most of them were pretty fired up. I noticed one thing before we actually got into the arena though…while in line, I was talking to two locals and they started going on about things on the dirt sheets. Now, I know we all get some information from them in one way or another so I didn’t judge one bit. What I did notice was that, a majority of the people I talk to, went into the show thinking it was going to be crap based off of what they’d seen online. I was a little irritated by this but I got over it once we got into the arena. The show started off with Cien Almas vs Sin Cara. The crowd, pre-show crowd that is, was kinda into it just because things were happening. They seemed more inclined to boo Almas than cheer Sin Cara. Fun match though. New Day and Sanity was next. The crowd woke up but the match itself left more to be desired. The giant powerbomb spot was really cool but it looked like Kofi hurt himself on the landing. B-Team got a huge pop when they entered and an even larger one when they won. From there things kinda mellowed out with Finn vs. Corbin. I thought the match was good but people around me started to get a little marky about it. The Asuka vs. Carmella match fell flat as it was mostly about James Ellsworth doing stupid shit in the shark cage. My favorite moment of the night was Shinsuke Nakamura finally winning a damn belt. The crowd was down too. Randy Orton coming out made everyone lose their minds. Things got louuuud at this point. Braun vs. Kevin Owens was an excellent match and the spot off the top of the cage was incredible but kinda scary to watch in person. Props to KO for being awesome. Dbry and Kane vs. The Buldgeons was a decent match as well, especially considering Kane was injured and fought in an air cast. Roman and Lashley was plagued by boos. So much so that it became impossible to hear anything else. Nia Jax vs. Alexa Bliss was a meh match that only was brightened by Ronda Rousey coming out to save the day…kinda. Jax still lost. Rusev vs. AJ Styles kind of surprised me. A for not being last, and B for the amount of athleticism show by Rusev despite his leg being hurt. Not sure if it was story or not because he landed awkwardly and was limping the rest of the time. Finally we get to the Iron Man Match. Rollins and Ziggler put on a pretty good match, worthy of a main event but, by this time, the crowd had lost some interest. The clock didn’t help either since everyone wanted to count down from 10. I started to get really annoyed at this point. There also was a kid dancing in front of me everytime the clock counted down. I wanted to chokeslam him but hurting kids isn’t cool apparently. The match ended with a tie, kinda as expected, then Uncle Kurt came out to make a sudden death round! But that ended about 2 seconds later after some interference from Drew McIntyre. It was a confusing ending to something that should have blown the damn roof off. That was Extreme Rules in a nutshell.
Raw, most of which I watched this morning, rang about the same tone with me as Extreme Rules. Good matches, the crowd seemed into a fair amount of it, and a confusing ending. Here’s a recap:
- Paul Heyman came out after Uncle Kurt tried to strip Brock Lesnar of this title. Everyone who lays claim to the Universal title showed up to demand to be #1 contender. Kurt made Two…that’s right, count em! Two Triple threats match to determine the winner.
- The B-team beat Ascension to remain your Raw tag team champions. Deleter of Worlds challenges them to a rematch next week.
- There was more tension between Sasha Banks and Bayley. Sasha told Bayley she loved her. MAXIMUM CONFUSION!
- Ziggler came out to gloat, Bobby Roode came out to challenge, match ensued. Ziggler wins
- Alexa Bliss came out to gloat, Ronda runs down, beats her up, gets a title shot at SummerSlam. I don’t understand but im okay with it.
- Titus World Wide gets murdered by Authors of Pain.
- Oh, Roman Reigns and Bobby Lashley won their respective Triple Threat matches. Next week they fight again….
Raw in a nutshell. As you can see by the figure above, Raw is a convoluted mess. Its 5 minutes until Smackdown so im going to get cheez its.

Kofi Kingston vs. Eric Young
Kofi get the upperhand right away, getting Young in a couple of holds and flipping around like Kofi does. Young doesn’t seem too phased by it until Kofi hits a big dropkick. Kofi seems to have an answer for everything Eric Young has to offer, eventually sending him flying outside. Commercial time. Back from commercial and Eric Young is in control outside the ring. New Day and Sanity are dangerously close to one another. Eric methodically works over Kofi. Things end up back in the ring with Young still in control, he goes for a big elbow drop but Kofi moves last second. Kofi hits a Boom drop goes for a trouble in Paradise but Young reverses. The action picks up as Kofi launches Young as he was climbing the ring post. Young rolls out of the ring and Kofi flies onto Sanity. He hits a SOS in the ring but Young kicks. Nak takes over as we go to another commercial. We’re back and Shinsuke and Jeff are battling it out. Jeff hits a Whisper in the Wind but cant put Nakamura away. Jeff strikes again right away and regains his momentum but Shinsuke holds on. Shin gets his moment, hits the big corner knees then goes to pin but Jeff kicks. Excellent match between these two. Randy Orton proceeds to beat the shit out of Jeff but Hardy gets some random offense in. It doesn’t last for long as Randy continues to assault Jeff. Shinsuke looks on, slightly confused, from the otherside of the ring. Randy pulls the hole in Jeff’s ear really hard in a really cringe worthy moment. Wow. That was much but still gets the point across. Officials come from the back to try and stop it but Randy keeps beating Jeff down.
