Smackdown comes to you live from Memphis! Paige and all the Smackdown ladies in the MITB match are in the ring. They talk about the MITB match. Paige gives a meh promo but its got good energy so whatever. Lana and Naomi trade terrible, terrible insults. Naomi reminds everyone that she won the Women’s battle royal at Mania. Everyone else chimes in with random things. Id give this segment like…3.5 elbow drops out of 5? That’s pretty fair. Becky and Charlotte are best friends apparently. Out comes the IIconics to save this abysmal segment. They give me the tinglies so im more interested. Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville come out and talk shit. Everyone fights. The end.
Daniel Bryan vs. Shelton Benjamin:
Benjamin starts off with some strong strikes to Bryan. Daniel immediately powers up and does a flip. Daniel gets Benjamin in a body stretch/pin combo but Shelton kicks. Benjamin is looking a little slow this evening. Just a little less pep in his step. He works Bryan over on the outside, attacking his knee. They go to commercial and when they get back there was really a lack luster match. Daniel plays a good baby face but its not working in this match. Daniel Bryan eventually gets the heel hook in and gets the win. It’ll be interesting to see who wins at MITB
Winner: Daniel Bryan
Asuka and Miz have a backstage with Paige. Asuka is part of a giant tag match with everyone woman who has ever wrestled and Miz wants to be special Ref for Rusev and Samoa Joes match for tonight.
Jerry Lawler comes down to the ring! He interview AJ Styles! Uncle Alan says Shinsuke got under his skin last week, that’s why he slapped the taste out of his mouth. AJ pumps the crowd up because he is Uncle Alan and that’s what he does.
Miz is backstage with a Ref to learn about what a ref does because 10+ years of wrestling isn’t enough experience for him.
Samoa Joe vs. Rusev (With Miz as Ref)
The two titans clash in the middle of the ring, exchanging big blows to show just how strong they are. Joe has a fresh haircut so I want him to win. Joe does a suicide dive as I look back up at the screen and I pop! Also, its commercial time. Back from that and the two fellas are still going back and forth. This is a match I didn’t know I wanted. Its not great, but its good. Joe and Rusev have similar builds and seem to compliment each other well in the ring. After some light shenanigans by Aiden English, Miz starts messing with Samoa Joe, which leads Rusev to catch a Machka Kick on Joe and get the win.
Winner by shenanigans: Rusev!
Rusev gets a ladder from English, hits Joe with it, then starts to climb the ladder before Miz attacks him. Interesting dynamic to the MITB match having all 3 of these guys actually going back and forth. It has more resonance than the RAW group for some reason. Whatever works I guess. Miz grabs a briefcase and starts showing it off. He opens it up and there is pancakes! Go backstage and New Day is standing there laughing! Also, Kofi and Xavier Woods were both wearing the same shirt….like both in the same shirt…together…I don’t understand but I enjoy.
They preview a 10 woman tag match. My mind exploded.
Jeff Hardy vs. Shinsuke Nakamura:
Jeff and Shin lock up, pushing each other to the corner. Shinsuke taunts Jeff and Jeff fires back quickly. Shinsuke slides out of the ring and Jeff shakes his head as Shinsuke taunts him. They brawl outside before we go to break. Back from break and Jeff is running things. There were lots of near falls here. A match that I wasn’t entirely looking forward too turned out to be the one that I zoned in on the most. Jeff hits a Whisper in the wind and Swanton, but Shinsuke persists. Shinsuke ends up hitting a low blow and gets DQ’d
Winner by DQ: Jeff Hardy
Shinsuke continues to attack him and then starts counting to 10, a slide at AJ Styles.
10 Woman Tag Match:
More isn’t always better. As usual, ill give you highlights and the winner. I deplore these kind of matches and it devalues the women’s division of Smackdown.
Honestly this was chaotic as hell.
It was hard to keep up.
Asuka makes Carmella tap
After the match. Everyone stands in the ring, looking up at the MITB briefcases.
That’s it for this week. In terms of “action”, this episode wasn’t bad at all. More enjoyable than RAW. In terms of storyline, it gives me chills and the belief that I could write a better episode. Whenever Hunter wants to get ahold of me, ill be here to write one, I just need to be at work the next day so come close to where I live please. Anyways, check out the site for wrestling things, my twitter @buuurch1, and as always, Take Care!
