WWE NXT Results/Grades (Oct. 31, 2018): Matt Riddle debuts... Published - November 1, 2018 Credit: WWE.com

The latest episode of WWE NXT aired on Wednesday, October 31.
Here’s a recap of what happened on the show…

Match 1: Nikki Cross vs. Mercedes Martinez Summary: The deranged Nikki Cross put aside her “I know!” drama to take on Mae Young Classic standout Mercedes Martinez in the opening match of the show. This was a back-and-forth match between two of the most respected women in the MYC/NXT. It looked as though Martinez would get the win following three consecutive suplexes and a knee to Cross’ bloodied face, but Cross turned things around and hit The Purge on her opponent for the win.

Post-match: Cross got down on all fours and creeped Martinez out by sending a sick grin her opponent’s way. Candice LeRae then confronted Cross over last week’s apparent revelation that Johnny Gargano attacked Aleister Black, but Cross laughed and walked away. Just as she was about to leave, Black appeared and walked towards LeRae in the ring. The two exchanged some intense words (without microphones) before Black walked to the back.

Verdict: The match was decent enough but this was all about the latest development in the Black storyline, which is legitimately one of the best stories in NXT history. Nobody knows for sure if Gargano really did attack the former NXT champion… or do they? The weekly twists and turns are making NXT must-see television right now.
Grade: B

Match 2: Street Profits vs. The Mighty Summary: Montez Ford got the crowd excited with some acrobatic moves early on in the match, including a dive to the outside to take out both members of The Mighty. The Aussie duo were second-best for much of this match but looked set to get the win at one point after a double-team powerbomb on Ford from the top rope. The pinfall was broken up by Dawkins, who later took out Nick Miller before Ford hit a stunning frog splash on Shane Thorne to get the win.

Verdict: It feels like Street Profits’ progress in NXT has stalled over the last six months or so, which is a shame because they were massively popular when they debuted. Ford was the biggest star of this match, as he usually is whenever he competes. With respect to Dawkins, Ford could be a huge singles star in the future.
Grade: B-

Match 3: Matt Riddle vs. Luke Menzies Summary: Former UFC star Matt Riddle made his much-anticipated debut against former rugby star Luke Menzies. The two had a test of strength before trading physical strikes and power moves in a surprisingly even encounter. In the end, Riddle connected with a knee to Menzies’ face before following it up with a series of elbows and his Bromission submission move, making his opponent submit.

Verdict: I was looking forward to this match because of Riddle, but how good was Menzies?! Both men produced really good performances here. It’s crazy to think that Riddle only debuted in 2015 and Menzies didn’t even begin wrestling training until 2016. The future is very bright for both guys.
Grade: B+

Match 4: Danny Burch & Oney Lorcan vs. Raul Mendoza & Humberto Carrillo Summary: Raul Mendoza and Humberto Carrillo showed off their high-flying ability with suicide dives to the outside early on in the match. Mendoza then took out his opponents with a dropkick on both of them at the same time. In the end, Danny Burch planted Mendoza to the mat with a vicious DDT and Lorcan got the pin for the win.

Verdict: Mendoza and Carrillo were a lot more competitive here than I thought they’d be. The fans were even more supportive of the two high-flyers than they were of Burch and Lorcan. I sense there could be a heel turn on the way for Burch and Lorcan, especially after the way fans responded to them at TakeOver: Chicago II earlier this year.
Grade: C+

Final segment: WarGames match announced Summary: The Undisputed Era were cutting a promo backstage ahead of their match against War Raiders when they were attacked by Hanson and Rowe. All six men began to brawl in the car park and they were quickly joined by Ricochet, who immediately targeted Adam Cole. Once they all made their way to the ring, Pete Dunne joined in by siding with War Raiders and Ricochet. NXT GM William Regal then made an appearance to announce that the eight men will do battle in a four-on-four WarGames match at TakeOver: WarGames.

Verdict: This was the perfect way to set up the WarGames match. It even had shades of Kevin Nash and Rey Mysterio in WCW when War Raiders launched Cole into a truck in the car park! It would be nice to see some titles up for grabs inside the cage(s) this year… or is that asking too much?
Grade: B
