Yes! Yes! Yes! It’s time for Smackdown Live once again. After last week, we have a big store in show for us!
Smackdown starts with a recap of Daniel Bryan’s return from last week. The video package they made for this had me getting all choked up and, most important of all, even more excited for Wrestlemania.
Bobby Roode enters with a GLORIOUS arrival.
Bobby Roode and Randy Orton vs. Jinder Mahal and Rusev
Mahal comes out and says Sunil is injured from his attack last week, so he got another partner…Rusev! The crowd love Rusev. Bobby and Jinder start things off with a tie up. Jinder takes control but Bobby turns it around with a Inverted Atomic drop. Bobby hits a Blockbuster and goes for the pin but Jinder kicks. Sunil gets on the apron and Bobby goes to confront him, but Randy grabs him and throws him into the barricade. Poor little guy. We get our first commercial. Back from commercial and the match appears to be a giant cluster. Bobby is back in with Rusev, who is being beat on. Randy goes for a hot tag, sowing more discontent with the tag team. Rusev connects with a big kick on Randal and goes for the pin but Randy kicks. Jinder comes in with some powerful knees to Randy. Rusev comes back in and hits a suplex. Jinder is back in. Good teamwork between Rusev and Jinder. Randy ends up getting the tag and Bobby comes on the attack with a vengeance. Roode is on the top rope with a top rope clothesline. He goes for a Glourious DDT, it gets reversed, but Bobby hits a spine buster instead and goes for a pin. Rusev breaks it up. Jinder ends up back in the ring and lays Bobby out. Jinder and Rusev go back and forth, taking turns on Roode. (A commercial is going on so it’s a quarter of the size on my screen and hard to see) Randy spends a good majority of this time staring at Bobby Roode, not in a fun teamwork way, more like a “Im going to RKO you at some point tonight” kind of way. Roode has been in there for a while and the crowd is starting to die out. Aiden English is outside the ring, talking trash, but not singing so it is what it is. Roode runs the ropes but Randy gets the hot tag. Bobby is pissed but leaves the ring anyways. Orton hits the powerslam and gets ready for his usual deal. Rusev is being wasted this match. Not my favorite thing. Jinder goes to attack Randy, who was trying to RKO Rusev, but Roode makes the saves and falls into Randy. Roode sends Jinder out of the ring. Randy comes up to Bobby, Bobby shoves him, Randy RKO’s him, and Rusev hits a Machka kick on Orton, for the win. Whew, that all happened pretty quick.
Winner: Rusev and Jinder Mahal
Backstage is Jinder and Sunil. They meet up with Rusev and Aiden English. Jinder thanks him for the tag team and says he’ll get him front row tickets to Mania. Rusev says that’s nice but he pinned the US champ so he’s going to find Daniel Bryan and make their match a Fatal 4 way.
Sinsuke and AJ are backstage. Shinsuke asks AJ if he is okay. Says he wants him at his best at Wrestlemania and that he wants him in his corner for his match. AJ agrees and Shinsuke leave. Excellent promo for Shinsuke.
Becky Lynch heads out to the ring.
Becky Lynch vs Ruby Riott (with the Riott Squad)
Quick tie up at the beginning. Ruby take early control, she goes for a pin but Becky did a back arch thing and stood out of it. Becky takes control but Ruby rolls out of the ring. Ruby ends up back in the ring. Becky ends up on the apron but Ruby ties up with her, then slams her down and Becky falls hard. Ruby Riott is back in control. The two go back and forth, with Ruby ending up in control most of the time. After some almost interference by the Riott Squad, Becky gets the pin on Riott. She then clears everyone out of the ring for that moment of victory.
Winner: Becky Lynch
Daniel Bryan is here!
He walks out to the ramp and stands there for a second. He doesn’t Yes! as usual but we understand cause he is injured. The crowd chants his name, making him smile. He says he loves being in Pittsburgh and talks about his return last week. But he says he has a job to do as General Manager of Smackdown Live. He says he’ll give Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens one more opportunity….just one. He proposes that they fight Shane and him at Wrestlemania. The crowd erupts in excitement. If Shane and Daniel win, Sami and Kevin remain fired; if Sami and Kevin win, they will be hired back to Smackdown. He gives them opportunities because he thinks they’re some of the best wrestlers of their generation and that they’ve been together for so long. He says as a general manager hes supposed to do lots of not fun things. He says he’s sick of meetings, he’s sick of paperwork, and sick as hell of blazers! Me too man, me too. He fought for his dream and Kevin/Sami tried to take that from him. He gets fired up and says he will fight at Wrestlemania. He felt he needed to avoid saying a lot of things as an underdog, general manager, but now he is not taking anyones garbage. He says he’s going to kick Kevin and Sami’s ass at Wrestlemania. My wife and I chanted kick his ass
Backstage Text on screen promo with Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable.
Neeeext is the New Day! Big E gets the crowd hyped, then starts talking about their road to Wrestlemania. They all point at the sign. Wrestlemania sign seems to be unphased. They say the Road to Wrestlemania is covered with trash (Bludgeon Brothers). They say they will adopt this highway, removing the trash. Xavier Woods gets fired up. Enter the Bludgeon Brothers.
The New Day vs The Bludgeon Brothers:
Commercial time. When we come back, Bludgeon Brothers are in control. They beat on Xavier Woods. Xavier gets some manner of a break when he superkicks Harper. Rowan attacks Big E and Kofi outside. Xavier is laid out with a big boot. Big E and Xavier are in the ring, dead. Rowan goes for the big hammer but he is stopped by the Usos. They run the Bludgeon Brothers out of the ring but end up arguing with the New Day, then the Bludgeon Brothers come back in with the mallets. The New Day and Usos back away.
Winner: Bludgeon Brothers
Recap of Daniel Bryan’s promo from earlier.
Out at the ring is Breezango. They’re dancing around the Andre the Giant trophy.
Tyler Breeze vs Dolph Ziggler:
The match starts and Fandango is dancing on the apron. It ends up distracting Tyler instead and Dolph goes in for the attack. Dolph works him over and goes in to attack but Breeze reverses and tosses Ziggler. Everyone ends up outside and they run around the ring. Dolph is back inside and goes for a super kick on Breeze but Breeze stops it. Fandango is still running around outside and Tyler tries to stop him, giving Ziggler the opportunity to hit a Zig Zag and get the win. He then goes outside and superkicks Fandango for good measure.
Winner: Dolph Ziggler
Shinsuke Nakamura vs Shelton Benjamin:
Uncle Allan comes out after Shinsuke, to stand in his corner and be emotional support. Benjamin and Gable come out next.
Benjamin gets Shinsuke to the mat quick but Shinsuke is up quick. Shinsuke gains control and works over Benjamin in the corner. Back from commercial and Shelton Benjamin has Shinsuke in a hold on the mat. Shinsuke regains control again and lays Benjamin out. Shinsuke takes Shelton to the corner and does the knees to the ribs. He gets ready for a Kinshasa but Gable gets on the apron. AJ takes out Gable, Shinsuke still misses the Kinshasa and Benjamin hits a beautiful bridge suplex but Shinsuke kicks. Nakamura goes for an armbar but Benjamin turns it into a half crab. Nak turns it back into a almost armbar. Benjamin tries to Powerbomb him but Shinsuke get out and this leads to a Kinshasa.
Winner: Shinsuke Nakamura
Uncle Allan claps ringside after the match. Shinsuke invites AJ to the ring. He thanks him for being out there but he only wanted him there to see how he will beat AJ at Wrestlemania. AJ isn’t pleased. He talks about his match with Shinsuke and says he will beat him and proves that he is the best. Shinsuke responds by making noises, showing how cool and calm he is. He says he will beat him because AJ is too emotional. Shinsuke leaves. Gable and Benjamin attack AJ from behind. Shinsuke runs back and clears the ring. Shinsuke sets up for a Kinshasa on Styles but fakes him out at the last second and says knee to face. He pats AJ on the head and walks away.
That’s it for this Smackdown. Not a bad ending and most storylines were actually continued. Follow me on twitter @buuurch1, check out our GLORIOUS wrestling content on this site, and as always, Take Care!
