Smackdown Live! Last week was pretty good! We saw Sanity in action, James Ellsworth being James Ellsworth, oh and TEAM HELL NO GOT BACK TOGETHER! Smackdown starts out with a video package of just that. I am excited!
Renee Young is in the ring and introduces Team Hell No! They talk about getting together again. They argue a little just to play up the previous animosity from forever ago. Funny segment. The Usos come out for no apparent reason. They complain about Team Hell No getting a tag team title shot. A match is born. But Kane protests and they start arguing again. Paige comes out to make a match most likely. She’s drunk and flubs some lines but we don’t mind. If the Usos win tonight they get added to the match at Extreme Rules.
Jeff Hardy backstage promo about the US Title open challenge.
Backstage Asuka promo about Ellsworth.
Jeff Hardy vs. ???
Independence Day US Title Open Challenge and his opponent is…. The Miz! Did not expect that at all. Miz takes it to Jeff right away. Jeff gets a good looking Jaw Breaker that turns into a series of reversals. It culminates with Jeff going for a Swanton but Miz rolls away quickly. Commercial time. We come back and Miz is in control but that changes quickly. He slams Miz’s face into the turnbuckles around the ring. A Delete chant breaks out. Miz catches Jeff off guard with a kick to the face and goes for a pin. Jeff kicks at 2. Miz gets Jeff in a arm stretch thing that gets reversed by Hardy but gets reversed again. Jeff starts unloading on Miz, hitting some of his usual moves. The action moves outside with Hardy jumping at Miz on the barricade but Miz moves! Charles Robinson shrugs in the ring before he starts to count. Another commercial. Back from commercial and both are down. They pound on each other. This match has turned into a battle. Miz goes for a SCF but Jeff deflects. Jeff goes for a Twist of Fate but Miz reverses. Miz hits big DDT and goes for the pin but Jeff kicks. Miz hits a big corner elbow, jumps off the top rope but Jeff moves, Jeff hits Whisper in the Wind but Miz kicks at 2. Jeff goes for another Twist of Fate but Miz reverses and goes for a pin with his feet on the rope. Charles sees it and Miz protests. Jeff hits a Twist of Fate and Swanton Bomb for the win.
Winner via Pinfall: Jeff Hardy
James Ellsworth cuts a pretty sexist promo on Asuka. Kinda funny but I feel the Twitter warriors powering up the war machine.
In the ring is Byron Saxton looking like a damn fool. He introduces the New Day for a pancake eating contest. The lights go out and Sanity’s music hits. They don’t like pancakes apparently. They attack New Day from behind. New Day gets murdered for no reason. Good show of force by Sanity. Eric Young hits a massive elbow drop from the top rope through a table on Woods.
Asuka vs. James Ellsworth
Carmella makes her way out to…probably interfere at some point. She comes into the ring dances around and taunts Asuka before leaving to the announce table. Ellsworth does like 3 push ups and shows off his muscles before the bell rings. Asuka clobbers him and he rolls out of the ring. Carmella yells at him before he gets back in and the same thing happens again. Most of this match is Asuka beating the hell out of James. Asuka slaps the shit out of Ellsworth before he runs away. Asuka chases him and both get counted out.
No winner: Double Count out
Carmella lays out Asuka, then her and Ellsworth leave. Alright then…
Backstage is Kane and Daniel Bryan. They’re trying to get on the same page.
AJ Styles vs. Aiden English
Rusev and Uncle Alan talk trash to each other before the match starts. Aiden surprise attacks AJ annnnd we go to commercial. Back and there is a surprisingly good match going on here. As I type that there was a little botch action and an awkward landing for AJ. AJ eventually shakes it off and takes it to Aiden. He sets up for a Styles Clash that English counters but AJ counters that into a Calf Crusher.
Winner via Submission: AJ Styles
Rusev attacks after the match because he is a heel.
Phone promo with the IIconics.
Backstage is Carmella and James Ellsworth with Paige. She makes a LumberJill match next week between Ellsworth and Asuka.
Becky Lynch vs. Peyton Royce
Peyton slams Becky into the corner early but Becky gets out. Peyton takes advantage of Becky after a distraction from Billie Kay and hits a big slam on Becky but she kicks at 2. Peyton gets Becky in an abdominal stretch but Becky gets out quickly. There is a clunky exchange and becky is back in a hold. It gets reversed to a roll up but Peyton kicks. Becky hits a Becksploder and starts hitting the usual moves. She runs into a big boot by Peyton. Peyton goes for a big slam but Becky reverses into a Disarmher for the win.
Winner via Submission: Becky Lynch
The Usos vs. Team Hell No!
Jimmy and Daniel start it off with a good little back and forth. Daniel hits a Surfboard stretch on Jimmy before tagging in Kane who kicks Jimmy in the head. He gives Jimmy a few big boots before tagging in Daniel and they hit a cool little double team. Bryan gets pinned in the corner and Jey tags in. Daniel makes it over to Kane and tags him in. Kane beats Jimmy and Jey down, then the fight ends up outside. Jimmy and Jey hit their own suicide dives. Commercial time.
