WWE MONDAY NIGHT RAW JAN. 07, 2019 FULL SHOW RESULTS...
Full Raw Results For (Jan. 7 2019) Published Jan 08 2019 By Andre Corbeil.
WWE Raw took place in Orlando, Florida on Monday, January 7 2019 & Here Are Your Slightly Late But Great Raw Results.
Raw began with Bobby Lashley attacking Seth Rollins in the backstage area. The rest of the roster tried to separate the two men and the brawl spilled out onto the stage area. The heels calmed down Lashley and the babyfaces calmed down Rollins as they were led backstage via different entrances.
Opening segment: John Cena returns to Raw Summary: John Cena officially declared himself as an entrant in the Royal Rumble, saying he wants to earn his way to WrestleMania rather than being handed an opportunity. Drew McIntyre interrupted the 16-time champ and explained how he has destroyed The Shield, Dolph Ziggler and Kurt Angle, and now he has his sights set on Cena. Lio Rush interrupted and threatened to sue over Seth Rollins’ actions at the start of the show. Rollins, Bobby Lashley, Dean Ambrose and Finn Balor all got involved and a six-man brawl ensued.
Grade: B-
Match 1: John Cena, Seth Rollins & Finn Balor vs. Drew McIntyre, Bobby Lashley & Dean Ambrose Summary: This was a back-and-forth match which looked as if it could go either way. Drew McIntyre gained momentum for his team when, moments after John Cena hit Dean Ambrose with an AA, the Scot headbutted “Big Match John” and gained a near-fall. From then on, the heels dominated until Cena finally tagged in Finn Balor, who brought the babyfaces back into it. One of the biggest moments came when Seth Rollins landed a moonsault onto Bobby Lashley and Ambrose at ringside. In the end, Rollins hit a Curb Stomp on Ambrose to not only get the win but also emerge as the star of the match. Following the match, Rollins spotted Triple H on the big screen talking to Sasha Banks and Bayley in the backstage area. He walked straight to the back, knocked HHH’s drink out of his hand and demanded an Intercontinental Championship match later in the show. HHH, seemingly pleased with Rollins’ fired-up attitude, agreed and added a Falls Count Anywhere stipulation. Grade B-
Hulk Hogan returns to honour Gene Okerlund Summary: There was a 10-bell salute for “Mean” Gene Okerlund, who passed away last week aged 76. Hulk Hogan’s music hit and the WWE Hall of Famer, wearing a ‘Mean Gene-o-Mania’ shirt, made his entrance. A “Hogan! Hogan!” chant broke out and Hogan said he entered “in character” because that’s what Okerlund would have wanted. A five-minute video package played celebrating the life of Okerlund, and a tearful Hogan said his famous “Let me tell you something, Mean Gene” line. He went on to suggest that Okerlund will be up there booking a tag match between Randy Savage & Ultimate Warrior vs. Roddy Piper & Mr. Perfect with Andre The Giant as special referee. The fans continued to chant for Okerlund and Hogan finished his in-character promo before cupping his ear to the crowd.
Match 2: Chad Gable & Bobby Roode vs. The Revival (Raw Tag Team titles lumberjack match) Summary: This was a typically high-tempo match between two of Raw’s top tag teams. It looked as though The Revival might win the titles when Scott Dawson rolled up Chad Gable. However, Bobby Roode pushed Dawson mid-pinfall and Gable was able to reverse it into an inside cradle of his own to pick up the victory. The problem? Dawson’s foot was on the rope and the referee didn’t spot it, meaning Gable & Roode retained but in controversial circumstances. Grade: B-
Match 3: Baron Corbin vs. Elias Summary: Elias began to sing a derogatory song about Baron Corbin but he was interrupted by the former acting Raw GM. Corbin teased that he might “disappear” from Raw, prompting huge cheers, before saying that “it’s not going to happen”. When the match began, Elias took control when he landed a splash from the top rope to the outside. The crowd chanted “You got fired!” at Corbin, who sent Elias into the ring post after an inadvertent distraction from the referee. He then hit the End of Days to pick up the win over WWE’s resident guitarist.
Grade: C+
Face-to-face: Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman Summary: While Braun Strowman waited in the ring for a face-to-face confrontation, Paul Heyman spoke from the backstage area and said Brock Lesnar will not walk down to the ring because, if he gets his hands on Strowman, he “will not have an opponent at the Royal Rumble”. Strowman continued the war of words, attempting to provoke Lesnar, and it seemed to have worked when “The Beast” made his way to the ring. However, with Strowman watching on from inside the ring, Lesnar simply walked one lap around ringside and walked back up the ramp. Grade: C-
Match 4: Jinder Mahal & Alicia Fox (w/The Singh Brothers) vs. Apollo Crews & Ember Moon Summary: Alicia Fox showed off her unique “Shanti” breathing technique and Jinder Mahal began to insult fans because they did not join in (including a guy’s girlfriend… for “having a beard”). Apollo Crews and Ember Moon interrupted and quickly picked up the victory when Moon hit Fox with The Eclipse.
Grade: C+
‘A Moment of Bliss’ w/Ronda RouseySummary: The premiere edition of ‘A Moment of Bliss’, held on the stage area, began with Alexa Bliss insulting the Orlando fans and demanding someone bring her a coffee. When Ronda Rousey was introduced as her guest, “The Baddest Woman on the Planet” refused a handshake from Bliss and made it clear that she wants to defend her title next against Sasha Banks. Nia Jax appeared and said that, as her title loss came in 2018, she feels she is deserving of another opportunity now that it’s 2019. Banks was next to appear. She began to address Rousey, telling her she will learn “dignity” in defeat, but she was interrupted by Jax. Banks then challenged Jax to a match right now, with the winner facing Rousey at the Royal Rumble. Grade: C-
Grade: B-
Match 5: Sasha Banks (w/Bayley) vs. Nia Jax (w/Tamina) Summary: Nia Jax took control when she lifted Sasha Banks up with a Gorilla Press at ringside before dropping her on an equipment case near the barricade. The Samoan continued to dominate for the majority of the match, notably when she connected with a powerbomb before causing her opponent to land awkwardly on the top rope. In the end, Banks sent Jax’s face crashing against the ring apron with a hurricanrana, and she followed it up moments later with a Bank Statement to make her opponent tap out. Rousey vs. Banks is now official for the Royal Rumble. Grade: B
Match 6: Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins (Intercontinental Championship Falls Count Anywhere) Summary: Seth Rollins gained control right from the start by attacking Dean Ambrose during his entrance. The fight quickly went to the backstage area, where Ambrose worked his way back into the match with the use of a ladder. Rollins hit back by bodyslamming Ambrose through the announce desk before connecting with a sharp right hand directly to his opponent’s face. Ambrose then tore up the mat at ringside, exposing the concrete floor, but his plan backfired when Rollins reversed a Dirty Deeds into a back body drop. Just when Rollins looked set to win after a Curb Stomp in the ring, Bobby Lashley attacked him all over the ringside area and inside the ring, allowing Ambrose to slowly cover his rival for the 1-2-3. Following the match, Rush helped Lashley set up a table and “The All Mighty” slammed Rollins through it to close the show.
