Match 1: Tony Nese vs. Noam Dar Pre-match: Buddy Murphy arrogantly welcomed the fans to “my 205 Live” before introducing Tony Nese. Noam Dar then made his entrance and said in a pre-match video package that he is ready to make a “big impression” on 205 Live after recently appearing on NXT UK.
Match: Dar connected with some strong strikes early on, including a kick to Nese’s shin on the ring apron, but “The Premier Athlete” was the one in control for much of this match. One of the most impressive moments came when Dar locked in a guillotine and Nese reversed it into a suplex, earning a 2-count. In the end, Murphy caused a distraction at ringside and Nese capitalised by hitting Dar with a German suplex into the corner, followed by a knee to the face, to get the win.
Verdict: The match was good, as you would expect from these guys. However, I can’t help but feel that Dar is a much better fit for the NXT UK division. He felt like a legitimate star of the UK scene when he faced Pete Dunne and Zack Gibson recently on NXT UK, whereas on 205 Live he is just another guy.
Match 2: Akira Tozawa & The Brian Kendrick vs. Local CompetitorsSummary: After last week’s miscommunication against Drew Gulak and Jack Gallagher, the unusual tag team of Akira Tozawa and The Brian Kendrick picked up a win this week over two local competitors. The finish came when Kendrick hit Sliced Bread 2.0, setting up Tozawa to hit a top-rope senton for the win. Tozawa successfully managed to get Kendrick to join in his “Ah!” rallying cry after the match.
Verdict: This was a relatively short match designed to give the new tag team a victory before they inevitably meet Gulak and Gallagher again. I don’t see this alliance lasting very long — Kendrick is too dastardly to have Tozawa as a friend!
Match 3: Gran Metalik vs. TJP Pre-match: Maria Kanellis smugly introduced the mask-wearing Mike Kanellis and TJP onto the stage, prompting Lucha House Party to confront them on the ramp. Drake Maverick, alongside a team of referees, ordered everybody except Gran Metalik and TJP to the back.
Match: One of the biggest moments came when TJP got his feet up from a Metalik moonsault before hitting him with a powerbomb, earning a 2-count. Moments later, Metalik connected with an incredible hurricanrana on the ring apron to send TJP flying to the outside. He then hit the Metalik Driver before attempting a top-rope elbow. However, TJP reversed it into a kneebar, which Metalik escaped from. In the end, Metalik scored a unique pinfall on TJP after a hurricanrana. Following the match, Lucha House Party began to celebrate before Maria repeatedly shouted, “I have a family, don’t you understand?” on the stage, distracting the trio. Mike then attacked the Luchas from behind with a chair.
Verdict: The storyline between TJP and Lucha House Party was already intriguing enough but the recent addition of the Kanellis’ has made it even better. I hope this doesn’t end in a Mask vs. Hair match — that is my least favourite stipulation in the history of stipulations — but the story is going well for now!
