The American tradition returns! Major League Wrestling invites fans and their families to join us after their Thanksgiving dinner at 6:00pm EST on MLW's YouTube Channel for the first-ever Fusion on Thanksgiving special!

For the first time in over 30 years a Von Erich will challenge for a World Championship in the main event on this historic broadcast.

Replacing his brother, Marshall, who was injured under suspicious circumstances, Ross Von Erich looks to bring the World Heavyweight Championship back to the Von Erich ranch.  Standing in his way is a 300 pound undefeated Samoan Smashing Machine in the reigning World Heavyweight Champion Jacob Fatu.

With Marshall sidelined, "Filthy" Tom Lawlor steps in to get Ross' back and stop any interference by CONTRA as the violent war between the Von Erichs and Lawlor against CONTRA Unit reaches a critical stage.

Can the 3rd generation grappler dethrone Jacob Fatu? Tune in to Fusion on Thanksgiving to find out!

Fighting royalty King Mo will make the move from MMA to MLW as he makes his debut against Ricky "El Sicario" Martinez. Will the former Strikeforce and RIZIN Champ show he's got what it takes to go major league? Will the street smarts and ruthless ways of Martinez be too much for King Mo?

In a Survivor Elimination Tag Team Match, Injustice's Kotto Brazil & Jordan Oliver wrestle Zenshi & Gringo Loco. Which team will move up in the tag team rankings? Tune in to find out as both teams strive to survive!

An update on the mysterious disappearance of Salina de la Renta. What has happened to the Puerto Rican powerbroker? MLW examines the mystery.

Live from Bucksnort, TN: Mance Warner has some choice words on Thanksgiving for his nemesis Jimmy Havoc.

Will Hammerstone finally reveal his "HYUUUGE gift"? What does The Dynasty do for Thanksgiving? Hint: members only, bro.

(NOAH) EVENT RECAP ~ NIIGATA CITY GYMNASIUM (26TH NOVEMBER 2019)

11/26/2019

Comments

Picture
After the successful live stream of the RATELS produce on Sunday 24th, Noah announced that they would be streaming another show live on their official YouTube channel, today's event from the sea green Niigata City Gymnasium (please note that Noah do not keep the shows up permanently, they cut them up into individual matches, so the link above may take you to the official site and not the event itself, although you should be able to find individual matches from there).
People watched it from all over the world - some while commuting home on packed trains, others having come home from work and eating dinner, others watching the GHC Junior Tag sheltering under a bike shed during a rainstorm (yes, that last one was me).

Today's show would have gone unnoticed save for Twitter comments had it not been broadcast, which would have been a real shame. Misawa would have been very proud of Noah tonight, especially the Noah juniors who in the last three days have just about managed to overshadow their rivals, the heavyweights.

MATCH ONE
Hi69, Minoru Tanaka & Junta Miyawaki vs The Sugiura Army (Hajime Ohara, NOSAWA Rongai & Kinya Okada)

Kinya Okada is still running to the ring (Miyawaki seems to have outgrown that), but both he and his budding rival were still being advised by the vets on the apron, who were encouraging the younger wrestlers. Okada looks to have bulked up suddenly, and even got Miyawaki in a submission hold that got the crowd screaming. Minoru Tanaka decided that he wanted Okada, and Okada felt the same, but sadly was no match for him.

NOSAWA was up to the usual tricks outside the ring, in the ring Hi69 (who got a lot of loud calls) kicked him in the face for messing around.

Energetic opener, with Miyawaki still trying for that elusive second win over a senior.

WINNER: Hajime Ohara with the Mui Bien on Junta Miyawaki (12 minutes, 6 seconds)

MATCH TWO
Akitoshi Saito vs Masa Kitamiya

Hoss fight, both slammed into each other with such force that the building seemed to shake on each impact.
Don't be looking for anything technical in this match, this was just two guys hammering down. Good chance for Saito to show what he could do outside the confines of comedy with Masao Inoue, and many facets were shown here - such as his strength and his brutality, which I think often gets missed. There is a reason why Marufuji used to say that "my partner is Saito-san", and this is it.
It was also good for Kitamiya to take a momentary break from the tag team division, and do some singles work. Match can be summed up as brute force.

WINNER: Masa Kitamiya with the Saito Suplex (10 minutes, 16 seconds)

MATCH THREE
50 Funky Powers (Mohammed Yone & Quiet Storm) vs Kongoh (Kenoh & Yoshiki Inamura)

Hell hath no fury like a Kenoh scorned. When 50 Funky Powers entered the ring, they were given gifts and a chance to pose with some local ladies who worked for local sponsors of the show. Kongoh were not given any presents, or asked to pose for a photograph, and the referee held them back.
Picture
You can tell just by looking at him (the Mohican is a big clue), just what kind of music that Yoshiki Inamura is into, and its not disco. Neither was disco appreciated, as Inamura squared up to Yone on Yone's funky rope break "Disco Fever" pose.

"What you got, huh?" Quiet Storm asked Inamura
So, Inamura answered him by showing his massive strength, by charging at and launching Quiet Storm into the corner, and then slamming him down in the Oklahoma Stampede.

Kenoh meanwhile was pacing slowly and angrily around the ring when he got into it, making the quick hawk like movements with his head. All his movements are calculated and deliberate. He knows exactly what he is going to do at any given time.
To put it simply, 50 Funky Powers were crushed by Kongoh.
Just like when Disco was destroyed by electronic funk.

WINNER: Kenoh with the PFS on Quiet Storm (8 minutes, 25 seconds)

MATCH FOUR
RATELS (YO-HEY & HAYATA) vs STINGER (Yoshinari Ogawa & Chris Ridgeway)

YO-HEY & HAYATA came out wearing the same outfits for  either for solidarity (or because YO-HEY seems to have this habit of wearing HAYATA'S clothes at times), YO-HEY even tucking one of the legs into his boots to make it shorter like HAYATA'S.

STINGER (who came to the ring first), attacked even before the announcer had finished saying "HAYATAAAAAA..." the fight between Ridgeway and HAYATA went into the crowd, as inside the ring, Ogawa was working on YO-HEY'S knee (all I could think of was Bill's line from "Kill Bill".... "do you find me sadistic?" and it was no wonder that the audio picked up YO-HEY swearing), despite the attack on his knee, YO-HEY however, still managed to pull out a dropkick.
Picture
Chris Ridgeway found inventive ways to torture HAYATA (such as catching him when somersaulting into the ropes and getting him into a submission), but HAYATA did an innovation of his own when he used Ridgeway's back to bounce off of in order to kick Ogawa in the head.

STINGER dominant and at their most sadistic, they kept RATELS grounded, and needless to say, this was a brutal match to watch.

WINNER: Chris Ridgeway with the German Suplex Hold on HAYATA (14 minutes, 1 second)
Picture
Ridgeway tapped HAYATA on the side of the head sarcastically after the match, and then he took the belt, and held it over him (while Ogawa beat up on YO-HEY'S knee for YO-HEY trying to push Ridgeway off of HAYATA'S knee). When STINGER had left the ring, and RATELS had struggled to their feet, HAYATA was unusually angry, before the "Married Couple" limped to the back.

MATCH FIVE
GHC JUNIOR TAG TITLE CHAMPIONSHIP
RATELS (Daisuke Harada & Tadasuke) vs STINGER (Kotaro Suzuki & Atsushi Kotoge)
Added to Hisame's Match of The Year 2019 list

Atsushi Kotoge did the right thing by returning to the Juniors, and Kotaro Suzuki did the right thing in returning to Noah (albeit as a freelancer), add in Ogawa and Chris Ridgeway to both STINGER and bringing a breath of fresh air to the Noah juniors, the division is very strong and very vibrant at the moment.

This was a real watch through your fingers match. So many near pinfalls on either side, Suzuki using Misawa's rope dive, the Outkast from the top turnbuckle, Kotoge moonsault (and about the fourth headbutt in the space of two days, although this one did not draw blood), the crowd were at fever pitch by the end of it. There was some unintentional comedy too when Suzuki managed to fall over a chair when Harada threw him into the crowd, both almost counted out when fighting outside the ring but looked at each other, stopped and then ran back in.
Picture
Everyone fought to the bitter end. What more could they bring out? In the end exhaustion and Tadasuke's tendency to showboat to the crowd, which meant that Kotoge had time to recover while he was playing up, meant that RATELS lost the junior tag titles. Tadasuke at one point was so manic, he ignored Kotoge who had gotten to his feet and was trying to attack him as he was marching round the ring.

Yoshinari Ogawa and Chris Ridgeway came out to second STINGER, unsurprisingly YO-HEY & HAYATA did not for RATELS.  As they left the ring, Kotoge was heard telling Ridgeway "Next you! Next you!" (he means the junior championship that Ridgeway is challenging for)

WINNER: Atsushi Kotoge with the Killswitch on Tadasuke (20 minutes, 1 second)

Daisuke Harada has made no comment, but Tadasuke.....
Picture
MATCH SIX
GHC NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP (First ever defense)
Takashi Sugiura (c) vs Shuhei Taniguchi

GHC National now has its own theme like all the other belts do.

There was no punches pulled in this match, the audio picked the impact up very clearly (and that of Taniguchi's headbutt). Taniguchi and Sugiura beat the hell out of each other throughout the whole match (nothing technical at all much happened here), and even the ref got thrown aside trying to pry Taniguchi off.

WINNER: Takashi Sugiura with the Olympic Slam (23 minutes, 59 seconds)

Masa Kitamiya (in Kongoh t-shirt) came out to challenge, and attacked Sugiura from behind, Saito suplexing him and knocking him down.
Kitamiya made his challenging saying he was going to challenge as Sugiura was the champion, and breaking through this wall was the barrier he needed to overcome to pull himself out of the dip he was in. Sugiura basically responded with, "bring it asshole, if you think you are hard enough. If you want it, try and take it."

Despite his trolling of him on social media, and his provoking him into doing and showing more, Sugiura did show some sympathy for his fellow soldier, and said that the flowers might not have bloomed today, but the petals were not faded or scattered.
Taniguchi himself has vowed to make an even bigger bloom.

MATCH SEVEN
Katsuhiko Nakajima & Go Shiozaki 15 Anniversary Debut Special Match
KUMAXIZ (Katsuhiko Nakajima, Go Shiozaki & Hitoshi Kumano) vs Kaito Kiyomiya, Naomichi Marufuji & Masao Inoue.

Masao Inoue appeared first to Naomichi Marufuji's music, and looked as if he was going to fall down the ramp as he walked down it. The crowd naturally wild for Marufuji, a little less so for Kiyomiya, but they were still vocal and animated to see him.
Then AXIZ sinister music hit, and with Kaito Kiyomiya in his white fluffy robe, and AXIZ in their sinister brown and black feathered coats, I can only think of the Noah joke of senior referee Nishinaga picking up the feathers that shed everywhere backstage.

Inoue was looking bruised even BEFORE this match began. There was some light comedy, with Shiozaki kicking him, chopping him and his telling him "don't be stupid" when he threw him into the corner. He also yelled to the referee that his count was terrible when trying to pin Shiozaki.
Inoue was menaced by Nakajima at the start of the match (who warned him not to try anything funny), and then he was intimidated by Shiozaki with a rope break.
It was also an audible "thunk" sound when Shiozaki hit him with the lariat for the pin.

Nakajima used the Misawa tag in for Kumano against Marufuji (Misawa used to do sudden tags in against an opponent, when he felt he wanted a rest), and Marufuji treated Kumano like a small boy (patting him on the head), Kumano (whose hair was purple and somewhat wild) was not appreciative and a chop fight broke out, at the end of this Kumano (for whom this was a very heavyweight match), was almost knocked out by Marufuji's high knee, and seemed to be suffering the effects of this throughout the match.
It didn't have the same effect on Katsuhiko Nakajima, however, who told Marufuji at one point his attacks were "no good" (he said the same to Kiyomiya).

If Hitoshi Kumano got it from Marufuji, then Kiyomiya got it from AXIZ - he took the dreaded kick\chop sandwich, and the machine gun chops. He did manage to revenge himself on AXIZ though by a double Misawa apron dive.

WINNER: Go Shiozaki with the short range lariat on Masao Inoue (23 minutes, 1 second)

Poor groggy Kumano was thrown back in the ring afterwards with AXIZ, with Shiozaki patting the bear. While Kumano found a big sack to lean on, Shiozaki spoke to the crowd, thanked them for coming, touched on Noah's 20th anniversary, and shook hands with Nakajima for both today, their upcoming match at Korakuen and their 15th anniversary debut, before doing the famous lean.

RATELS "SHOWTIME" (24TH NOVEMBER 2019, SHINKIBA FIRST RING)

11/24/2019

Comments

ABOUT
Mitsuharu Misawa started the tradition in the early 2000s by letting KENTA & Naomichi Marufuji do their own produce shows. This tradition has continued beyond the Misawa era with produce shows done by "Super Violent Army" and RATELS. These smaller shows are booked and planned by the wrestlers themselves, they plan everything from who is going to be on the card to how the matches will finish. It is a mark of Noah finally being able to get back on their feet that after the dark years, these things can come round again.
Picture
"I really enjoyed today's RATELS event!!! Bitter ending for RATELS, but there were great matches. Eight fantastic wrestlers never able to make boring matches. Fascinating rivalry!!"

Usual Noah opening with the usual theme as RATELS came out to the ring, YO-HEY looking very colorful. RATELS all in purple, STINGER more somber looking in black.

4 vs 4 tug of war match (RATELS vs STINGER)
Four ropes where entwined and placed on the mat, and then covered with a sheet. One person picks a rope, the two which chose the same rope will face each other in a singles match.

This shaped up as:

Yoshinari Ogawa vs YO-HEY
Kotaro Suzuki vs Daisuke Harada
Chris Ridgeway vs Tadasuke
Atsushi Kotoge vs HAYATA

Masao Inoue vs Mohammed Yone vs Shuhei Taniguchi
Masao Inoue came out to a remixed version of his theme music, and then as usual got into a struggle with his bright yellow t-shirt.

Completely ignoring Masao Inoue, Shuhei Taniguchi came out and squared up to Mohammed Yone as soon as the bell rang. Inoue tapped him as he wanted attention, and then he tapped Yone. Both brushed him off, locked up and ignored him. Crowd calling for Inoue.

Yone using rate decidedly not kid friendly language by calling Taniguchi as "asshole"!
Inoue telling Taniguchi to "Hey! Stop it!" when he got body slammed, and then Inoue was reduced to hiding in the corner, and clinging on to the turnbuckle, even though Yone got a "Masao" chant going.
Later, deciding he had had enough of being bulled, Inoue ran away from the ring, when he got back in, Yone crotched him by kicking the rope.

Despite the harassment of himself (at least  Takashi Sugiura wasn't around to stalk him), Inoue warned Taniguchi of his wrath. Taniguchi, however, wasn't intimidated by an old man with gout, and neither was Yone who knows every move that Inoue is going to make, so in the end Taniguchi and Yone just wanted to defeat Inoue, so it didn't matter who won.

WINNER: Shuhei Taniguchi with the diving body press on Masao Inoue (8 minutes, 18 seconds)

STINGER worked on RATELS in various ways during the singles matches in order to soften them up for the elimination main event, Ogawa with YO-HEY'S knee, Suzuki working on Harada's chest and ribs, Ridgeway on Tadasuke's arm and Kotoge just generally on HAYATA.

YO-HEY vs Yoshinari Ogawa
Unusually for him, Ogawa came out all in white. There was the usual beautiful YO-HEY dropkick, and you could tell just how much YO-HEY was loving this by the grin on his face.

In a moment that would be his Achilles heel for the rest of the evening, YO-HEY dived outside the ring, and yelled "FUCK" as it looked like he hurt his knee (there was a genuine moment of worry among fans at the venue and viewers at home), and Ogawa naturally capitalized on this and worked on damaging it even further throughout the match as massive calls for YO-HEY arose from the crowd.

HAYATA ("Wife") came out to rescue YO-HEY when Ogawa decided to use a chair by wrapping YO-HEY'S knee around the ringpost, but Ogawa shoved him away. HAYATA remained hovering protectively at ringside, with Ogawa kicking him away at times when he got too close.
Picture
YO-HEY spasmodically flailed all over the ring, refusing to give up, no matter what Ogawa put him through, with the crowd at fever pitch urging him not to give in. In the end, HAYATA threw in the towel (or rather his purple RATELS t-shirt), as he knew that YO-HEY was not going to quit, and that Ogawa was going to torture him. YO-HEY not happy, but HAYATA made him see sense, and helped him from the ring.

WINNER: Yoshinari Ogawa via HAYATA quitting on YO-HEY'S behalf (11 minutes, 55 seconds)
*Note the official Noah site has put the result as "TKO (Second threw in the towel)"

Kotaro Suzuki vs Daisuke Harada

Daisuke Harada came slowly to the ring looking merciless, holding the IPW Junior and wearing the GHC Junior Heavyweight tag belt, which he slowly undid his RATELS jacket to reveal.
Very technical match, which was full of hatred, Suzuki being very calculated and Harada not taking his eyes off of him.

As per the STINGER way (and as mentioned above) Suzuki worked on Harada's chest and ribs (I thought Harada was going to have an asthma attack at one point with his wheeze and cough).

Crowd on the edge of their seat with many near falls.

WINNER: Daisuke Harada with Katayama German Suplex (8 minutes, 13 seconds)

Chris Ridgeway vs Tadasuke
Ridgeway came out to "Paint it black", which YouTube had to mute, but no doubt Miyawaki enjoyed.
Tadasuke, who decided to jump off the ramp and walk round the ring, proudly showing off the tag belt on the turnbuckle when he went to do his usual entry.

After the bell rang, Tadasuke offered Ridgeway the usual smarmy handshake, Ridgeway was sensible enough not to take it (its best not to trust Tadasuke when he does this), so Tadasuke flicked sweat at him instead.

Tadasuke alternating between crafty villain mode, (although he did do a clean ropebreak, Ridgeway imitated him and then kicked out at him), and then his manic crazy self, which caught up to him at times, especially when it caused Ridgeway to trap him in an elaborate submission (which he came up with spontaneously, which kind of reminded me of the mutation scene from "Akira"). Ridgeway pretty much found a counter to everything Tadasuke threw at him, including the OUTKAST.

WINNER: Chris Ridgeway with the German Suplex (12 minutes, 28 seconds)

Tadasuke said on Twitter that he was going to get revenge.

Atsushi Kotoge vs HAYATA
HAYATA came out to the ring very quickly, and to LOUD screams from the audience. Very fast paced match with the fight going into the crowd. Kotoge slamming HAYATA on the benches and walking into the ring as the count went (crowd screaming for HAYATA). HAYATA made it back by 15, and Kotoge threw him back into the ring. Kotoge also did the first of about three headbutts that evening.

Match had LOTS of near falls with a fight on the apron that I thought had genuinely knocked HAYATA out when he was driven headfirst into it, and a rare Kotoge moonsault. The crowd was at fever pitch as Kotoge went for the Killswitch, and then the pin, but the time just ran out and the GHC Junior Heavyweight music played (although this was not a title match).

Fans want to see this match again, and it has made my match of the year list.

WINNER: Time limit draw (20 minutes)

The Sugiura Army (Kinya Okada & Hajime Ohara) vs Junta Miyawaki & Hi69
Nice little filler match which served to further the budding rivalry between Junta Miyawaki and Kinya Okada. Miyawaki growing daily, and he came very close to getting the win over his opponents, fighting like a demon (although Hi69 did no sell him).

WINNER: Hajime Ohara with the Muy Bien in Junta Miyawaki (8 minutes, 24 seconds)
Picture
STINGER vs RATELS (Elimination match via pinfall or over the top rope)
RATELS came limping out looking ragged, Tadasuke managed to rally everyone to do his fist pose though. STINGER came out looking slightly less worse for wear.

As soon as the bell rang you could forget the elimination rule, everyone attacked with Ogawa working on YO-HEY'S knee, and then Suzuki joining in. Ridgeway had a go too, but Kotoge did not.
RATELS at one point all got in the ring when YO-HEY was being tortured, with HAYATA being protective and last to leave it when made to by the referee.

YO-HEY eliminates Ogawa (roll up)

Ogawa couldn't believe what had happened....

Kotaro Suzuki eliminated YO-HEY via pinfall, with Tadasuke then eliminating Kotaro Suzuki. He had a crazy look in his eyes when he sat up from the pin. Ridgeway got into the ring and they butted heads. As soon as Harada got into the ring, he took the opportunity to shove Kotoge off the apron (this did not count as an elimination though).

Harada was merciless, had the shark smells blood look in his eyes when staring down at Ridgeway, who he had just stamped on (twice), but when Ridgeway was back on his feet they had a stiff exchange.

HAYATA was the one who eliminated Ridgeway via knocking him outside the ring off the apron, Ridgeway pulled him off the apron and therefore eliminated him, and a rolling on the floor fight went on outside, which Harada had to break up (twice as it happened because it kept breaking out). HAYATA stayed at ringside to watch, and there was no further trouble between himself and Ridgeway for the rest if the evening.

Then it came down to Harada & Tadasuke vs Kotoge.
Kotoge (who had been tortured by Harada), cleverly eliminated Tadasuke by using Harada against him, and then went for the quick pin on this momentum, but Harada kicked out. The crowd screamed loudly as Harada went for the Avalanche Katayama again, but Kotoge fought out of it with elbows managing to knock him off the turnbuckle. Kotoge did the second headbutt of the evening, and then got the three count with the Killswitch. As Ridgeway came out second him, we could see that Kotoge was bleeding from the head (Harada fortunately was not, but he would remain on his back with the others in RATELS around him for a while), YO-HEY (with a heavily taped and iced knee) limped barefoot into the ring.
Kotoge spoke on the microphone to sadly say to Harada that he didn't think that there could ever be any kind of happy ending between them, before leaving the ring.

Then YO-HEY spoke, thanked everyone for coming, babbled something at top speed, said he hoped there would be another RATELS produce, and then a worn looking RATELS scraped Harada off the apron and limped off backstage, where they later did a three man interview, which HAYATA did not take part in (and YO-HEY it seemed was not going to make him).

Major League Wrestling (MLW®) and former World Heavyweight Champion "Filthy" Tom Lawlor have agreed to a new exclusive multi-year agreement...

Posted By Andre Corbeil.

Joining the league with its seminal return in 2017, Lawlor has emerged as one of the most respected and popular wrestlers in the league, dethroning Low Ki in February to win his first World Heavyweight Championship at SuperFight.

"We went into extra innings to get this deal done," said Court Bauer, MLW CEO Court Bauer. "Tom's talent, passion and leadership are second to none. We're all beyond pleased to have his continued presence in MLW for years to come."

"After months and weeks of trying to figure out the next step in my career, I have come to the conclusion that indeed there is no place like home, and no where that I would rather continue to swing for the fences than in Major League Wrestling," said Tom Lawlor.

"I’m happy to announce that myself and management have come to terms that will keep me in the ring with the top talent, wrestlers, and fighters under the MLW banner. While I was able to reach the peak of the mountain and become world champion in the past, I have since realized that there are entire new ranges for me to conquer and I look forward to getting to the summit alongside the fans and supporters of MLW. Stay filthy!"

Lawlor, an MMA fighter turned top ranked wrestler, will next compete at the Opera Cup in New York City on December 5 at the Melrose Ballroom.
