Sea Change
SPro Wrestling Noah have had a turbulent twenty years, knowing massive highs and depressing lows, and it is fitting that in their twenty year anniversary, the promotion once again enter unknown waters on their endless voyage.
On the 29th January 2020, out of the blue, LIDET announced that they had sold Noah to CyberAgent, who are a streaming company. This would mean that Noah became a subsidiary of CyberAgent, along with DDT. In a nutshell, Shinshiro Takagi (president of DDT), would become President of Noah; Naomichi Marufuji would once again be Vice President, and Akihiro Takeda (formerly Noah's president under LIDET), would be executive officer. LIDET will remain with Noah as their sponsors.
More can be read on the story here. It was also announced that DDT would stream Noah on both their official stream "DDT Universe", and on AbemaTV. I don't think they will be streaming every single show, but you can watch this event here. Noah also streamed the event through Periscope.

Naturally, fans were concerned when they came to Korakuen today, and there was an atmosphere of uncertainty mixed with excitement as the news had taken everyone by surprise. Sadly a knock on effect of the news is that we will most likely not see KENTA "come home" anytime soon, CyberAgent purchase of Noah changes the balance of power of Puro in Japan, and puts them into direct competition with New Japan. That said, it is Noah's 20th anniversary, and it is hoped he can still come back - even if it is just once.

The ring is still the same, using the black and white LIDET version today, and I would imagine that with all the effort and ceremony gone into the rebranding, Noah will continue to use it, especially as LIDET (as has been said), are their sponsors.

The two trainees were at ringside today, the taller one having shaved his head, which meant that I didn't recognise him at first (and I thought it was Cody Hall).

Noah only attracted 988 people to Korakuen Hall today, but I think this was probably a mixture of the weather (there has been snow and ice in parts of Tokyo), it being a Thursday night, the event being streamed, and probable uncertainty about what they would find. Despite the size (and Korakuen looked fuller in the pictures), the crowd was enthusiastic, and cheered loudly when the card was introduced, and louder for Ogawa vs Togo.

MATCH ONE
El Hijo de Dr Wagner Jnr vs Kinya Okada

Kinya Okada did not have an easy start to his career, debuting at the same time as Yoshiki Inamura, he suffered two injuries, and this has set him back. However, he seems to be overcoming his rough start, and today looked to have really bulked up. He may never be the ever growing tank that Yoshiki Inamura is fast on his way to becoming, but he is looking more and more compact, like a bullet. He also got a few streamers.
Despite the upgraded body, the cheers from the crowd, and the in ring technique which has suddenly blossomed, he is still to inexperienced to know that you don't ever trust a handshake offered in the ring, not even by your stablemate if he is your opponent.

El Hijo de Dr Wagner junior showed his sadistic side by ripping apart Okada's mouth, and making him bleed.

WINNER: El Hijo de Dr Wagner Jnr via Wagner Driver (6 minutes)
Picture
MATCH TWO
STINGER (Kotaro Suzuki, Atsushi Kotoge & Chris Ridgeway) vs RATELS (HAYATA, YO-HEY & Tadasuke)

RATELS came out to Tadasuke's music, and did the famous pose. When they gotten down and were waiting for the match to start after the referee had checked them, there were girls in tandem yelling "YO-HEY" together, the crowd reacted to this and went "woooo". Needless to say, YO-HEY was his usual exuberant self.

HAYATA'S cruel smile came to the fore at having beaten Kotoge up, and from outside the ring Chris Ridgeway then joined in after blindsiding HAYATA when he got too close to the STINGER corner, brawling with him (usual STINGER tactics).
Ridgeway had a smile of his own (sarcastic), when tying HAYATA in a knot. When HAYATA managed to get free, he crawled back to his corner to find YO-HEY and Tadasuke bouncing up and down on the apron encouraging him to get the tag (Tadasuke was also headbanging along with the claps of the crowd).

This was very much a fun match, with Atsushi Kotoge being booed for knocking down Crazy Tadasuke.
Not that Tadasuke cared, he got to his feet and did it again.

The match ended with Kotoge going for the Bisontennial (a move used by Golden Era gaijin Bison Smith, which Kotoge used in his last match), HAYATA kicked him, and YO-HEY reversed the move and got the pin.

WINNER: YO-HEY via HAYATA assist with a kick to Atsushi Kotoge (10 minutes, 31 seconds)

Afterwards, YO-HEY made a challenge for the belts, by indicating a title challenge by doing the belt motions at the waist. He didn't say anything, but HAYATA agreed with him.

Chris Ridgeway will now return to the UK for the time being.

MATCH THREE
Quiet Storm's last Noah match
50 Funky Powers (Mohammed Yone & Quiet Storm) vs The Anti Wrestlers Alliance (Akitoshi Saito & Masao Inoue)

The crowd watched as Masao Inoue (who had been described by Akitoshi Saito of being "like a weevil in a biscuit" or a "cockroach in a freezer", had the traditional fight with his red t-shirt as 50 Funky Powers (both carrying flowers) made their last ever entrance. There were lots of streamers for Quiet Storm.

The match was a mixture of comedy and stiff work; comedy with Inoue (i.e. poking Yone in the eyes), and an opener of Quiet Storm and Akitoshi Saito bashing into each other, and Yone's stiff punches on Saito. Soon after this, Saito warned Yone that he was in for it now, lightning tagged in Inoue, and left the ring quickly.
Yone, soon dealt with Inoue.
Inoue later came up against Quiet Storm, who menaced him, backing him into the corner. Inoue burst into tears and kicked the bottom turnbuckle after being chopped. Masao Inoue had a kind of revenge; he is a man who suffers gout and gets teased for it by the roster (mainly Takashi Sugiura), and because of this in the ring he stamps on their toes. However, it had no affect on Quiet Storm as he decided he had had enough, the armband came off, as did Inoue's head almost.

WINNER: Quiet Storm via Funky Buster Bomb (11 minutes, 35 seconds)
Picture
Then it was all over. Quiet Storm had entered Noah in May 2014 and stayed for six years, and his final match had come and passed. There was a big hug with Yone, which seemed endless, one last 50 Funky Powers pose, and a farewell and thank you to both his opponents and the fans. He says he will stay in Japan, and will freelance. He has been seeing management agencies, who will book work for him.
Backstage, Naomichi Marufuji had been standing watching the match.

Now it was on to the semi finals of Junior Global League 2020, with the two winners of each match meeting in the finals in the main event tonight.

MATCH FOUR
Global Junior League 2020 Semifinals
Hajime Ohara vs Daisuke Harada

Daisuke Harada vs Hajime Ohara is eternally a highly anticipated match, Noah run it very rarely and save it for special occasions such as leagues and title matches. It never disappoints, the matches are technical and psychological, and as they know each other so well the challenge is to come up with something the other does not know, such as today when Ohara caught Harada and turned it into an Emerald Flowsion, and as time ticked down, Harada used a Tombstone piledriver. The crowd themselves rose to fever pitch, especially when Ohara had Harada in the Mui Bien. Harada also broke out a massive lariat.
Several fans commented that Hajime Ohara has really bulked up, and I have to agree with them. He looked ripped. As popular as Harada is, the crowd were very much behind Ohara. There was amazing mat wrestling at the opening stages of the match.

The referee Shu Nishinaga was caught in a botch and made to bleed. He seemed somewhat groggy and spaced out during the match, even missing counting the pin for a few seconds at the end.
WINNER: Daisuke Harada with the Katayama German Suplex (15 minutes, 45 seconds)

Daisuke Harada now goes through to the next round. YO-HEY was exuberant about the win, and even HAYATA was seen to smile.

Hajime Ohara spoke on his blog about his disappointment at losing, and how much he enjoys being in matches with Harada and he wants to do it again and again and again.

MATCH FIVE
Global Junior League 2020 Semifinals
Yoshinari Ogawa vs Dick Togo

If you like technical matches, submission holds, clever reversals and mat wrestling, then this is a match for you. Both Ogawa and Togo (despite looking like your cool uncles who go to rock concerts), went at it, and both are in their 50s.
Despite how worrying to see Ogawa's arm so taped, this didn't stop him torturing Togo in usual merciless style (fans love it when Ogawa is at his most sadistic), but was Togo who did the unthinkable...

WINNER: Dick Togo via Cross Face Lock (8 minutes, 31 seconds).

Yoshinari Ogawa is going to remember this, or not, if anyone brings it up and he doesn't want to be reminded of it.
Picture
Before the interval, Noah made announcements on the monitor
THE TOUGH vs Daisuke Sekimoto & Ryūichi Kawakami (16th February at Korakuen Hall)
Akitoshi Saito's 30th anniversary match (Akitoshi Saito, Masao Inoue, Shiro Koshinaka & Masashi Aoyagi vs KONGOH - Kenoh, Masa Kitamiya, Yoshiki Inamura, Hao and Nio. 24th February, Nagoya)
Noah return to Kultz Kawasaki on 30th August, Hajime Ohara will be involved in the production again
Kazushi Sakuraba will be back in Noah on the 24th February
Great Muta is coming back to Noah on 8th March

MATCH SIX
Naomichi Marufuji, Kaito Kiyomiya, Minoru Tanaka, Hitoshi Kumano & Junta Miyawaki vs Kongoh (Kenoh, Masa Kitamiya, Yoshiki Inamura, Haoh and Nioh)

Kongoh came out first, with Yoshiki Inamura's sumo entry (which is a tribute to his background). The streamers also got caught on his Mohawk!

As no one wanted to be in the ring with Kongoh alone, there was a strength in numbers as Minoru Tanaka, Hitoshi Kumano, Junta Miyawaki and Kaito Kiyomiya all came out together to Kiyomiya's music. Even though he has no belt, Kiyomiya still got in Kenoh's face - and in the middle of mouthing off at him, Kenoh snapped a green streamer in half.
Naomichi Marufuji entered separately, and squared up to Kongoh when he got in the ring, in particular Haoh. It is said that Marufuji is Haoh's best teacher for learning how to do the Noah style, although he spent most of the match bullying him.

Knowing that given half the chance, the next thirty minutes would be spent in a mass brawl, and with the Ref wanting to avoid a melee the moment the bell rings, told both sides to chose one person as everyone was growing threatening. So it was Tanaka and Nioh who started the match.
Naturally Kenoh and Kiyomiya fought both inside and outside of the ring and they know each other too well, Kumano vs Inamura was very good, and Marufuji wound up Kongoh by pretending to run at them to knock them off the apron.
Masa Kitamiya no sold Marufuji, even when he kicked him in the face via hook kick.

Kaito Kiyomiya continues his evolution, he is learning to play up to the crowd with more confidence.

Although he was the one that got pinned, Junta Miyawaki (still with a taped shoulder), stood up to Kenoh, managing to knock him down, and he got the two count. When Kenoh got the advantage, Miyawaki kicked out at two, Kenoh  struck again and pinned him following a kick, Miyawaki kicked out again at two, so Kenoh went for the diving footstamp, that ended it.

WINNER: Kenoh via PFS (19 minutes, 14 seconds)

As everyone milled around in the ring, the fans waited to see what Kenoh was going to do, would Kongoh make a title challenge? Would Kenoh challenge Sugiura?
Picture
Then Kenoh asked for a microphone, and he started ranting about Noah's new enemies (which got chants from fans because they knew that this potentially had a far more reaching impact as DDT'S manager is also a wrestler), then Kenoh said something surprising.
He thanked LIDET.
LIDET his mortal enemies.
Kenoh, however, had a reason to thank them, and he acknowledged everything that had done for Noah - the rebranding, the promotion, Sumo Hall, the produce shows. They had protected Noah.
Kongoh then all bowed to the LIDET sponsorship logo which was up on the wall next to THE LEAVE, before leaving the ring.

MATCH SEVEN
AXIZ (Go Shiozaki & Katsuhiko Nakajima) & Shuhei Taniguchi vs The Sugiura Army (Takashi Sugiura, Kazuyuki Fujita & Hideki Suzuki)

NOSAWA Rongai, who was not on today's card, came out to second the Sugiura Army, wearing a LIDET t-shirt and with no make up. Speaking of t-shirts, Kazuyuki Fujita (whose entry theme sounds like something you would have heard in All Japan in the early 90s) is still refusing to wear a "Company Dog". NOSAWA behaved himself today and cheered on his team, ignoring the fights going on around him.

AXIZ emerged, Nakajima still refusing to bring the W-1 belt, or even acknowledge that he is their champion. The crowd were desperate for Shiozaki and Fujita to start, which they did.
The match had a slow beginning as Fujita and Shiozaki built up the drama, which was unleashed when a slap war broke out, with Fujita leaving welts on Shiozaki that stretched from his hairline to his jaw. Then Takashi Sugiura got in the ring, and not wanting to go "Golden Era" after that, Shiozaki tagged in Taniguchi, but Fujita didn't let him off that easily, and they fought outside of the ring with Fujita using the belt on Shiozaki.
Back in the ring, Sugiura and Taniguchi were going at it, and Nakajima would later really lay his choke on Hideki Suzuki.

WINNER: Kazuyuki Fujita with the sleeper hold on Shuhei Taniguchi (18 minutes, 55 seconds)

Shiozaki and Fujita continued fighting after the bell, until they were seperated. After that Nakajima sat and watched the proceedings from the corner, as Shiozaki got on the microphone and did what everyone had been waiting for - he made Fujita his challenger for the belt. Title has been set for 8th March in Yokohama.
Suzuki then got on the microphone and said that he couldn't challenge Shiozaki, but he could challenge Nakajima to a singles match. He left before Nakajima could respond, but Nakajima had the look on his face similar to the Velociraptors did when being fooled by the kids in the kitchen in Jurassic Park.

Then the crowd screamed, as Kaito Kiyomiya got in the ring, and called Sugiura back. Kiyomiya challenged for the GHC National, with Sugiura telling him that he had seen 20 years of Noah, he had seen the good, the bad...and some things that Kiyomiya should be grateful that he never had seen, and yes he would give him his title match, on the 25th February in his hometown of Nagoya.
Kiyomiya later posted on Twitter that Sugiura was an "ogre", and that he would win the belt and make his new scenery. Sugiura didn't like it? Tough. He would be absorbed into it.

MATCH EIGHT
Global Junior League finals
Daisuke Harada vs Dick Togo

Daisuke Harada came out seconded by RATELS, with the crowd behind him. Maybe not Noah born, but Harada represented Noah in this match and with the exception of Chris Ridgeway (who has fitted in like a glove), the Noah juniors do not usually like outsiders, especially those who come in to win leagues or belts. Speaking of belts, he was also introduced as the "IPW Junior Champion."
This is their first singles match ever, having last wrestled in tags in 2009 and 2010.

This was not a technical match like earlier with mat wrestling, but more a test of endurance, stiff punches, chops and kicks, and submission moves (Togo on Harada's knee). At times it threatened to turn into a brawl, as Togo went to use a chair on Harada.
During the match, Togo baited Harada, doing the "come on and hit me, right here" and then ducking him. Togo, who is 50, kept pace with the 33 year old Harada, who had last met as a 22\23 year old. He also used his amazing through the rope somersault. YO-HEY was on hand to hold the barrier, and check Harada was okay.

WINNER: Daisuke Harada via Katayama German Suplex (19 minutes, 43 seconds)

The President of THE LEAVE (long term sponsors who do property rental, sponsor the Noah trophies) and presented Harada with his prize. YO-HEY was very sweet with Harada, bringing him the microphone, and Okasan (Tadasuke) helped him up
Harada gave a winners speech, thanking everyone, speaking of his title challenge. He later said that this win was for the Noah juniors, not just him alone.

Unless they are squabbling over a belt, a RATELS win is a win for all of them. RATELS all posed together after Harada had the official pictures taken (unlike last years winner he didn't look like he was about to run off any moment). RATELS crouched by the title in a huddle, and did their arm tie. YO-HEY looking the happiest, with everyone staring into the cameras, except HAYATA.

(NOAH) EVENT RECAP ~ GLOBAL JUNIOR LEAGUE 2020. EDION ARENA OSAKA STADIUM 2, OSAKA, JANUARY 25TH

1/25/2020

Comments

Picture
Noah had announced that they would be streaming the four Junior Global League matches live through Periscope today. President Takeda had given permission for the SNS team to go to Osaka to do this, but Noah had a wonderful surprise in store for us fans, they streamed the main event live too, so ultimately we got to see 98% of today's show. I will post the links to the shows, but I am not sure as to how long Noah will keep them up.

Noah held "FAN FES IN OSAKA" before the show began, and with the new rules that Noah wrestlers can now sign fan personal items, AXIZ signed a Nintendo Switch. Elsewhere, Kiyomiya's portrait sold out, and in the small interval between the fan club picture session, and the fans arriving for the show, Takashi Sugiura (looking slightly hungover) practiced in the ring, as did Yoshinari Ogawa. I don't think Ogawa held a class today though.

The event had a highly charged and intense atmosphere, which was felt even if you were not at the venue.

MATCH ONE
The Anti Wrestlers Alliance (Akitoshi Saito & Masao Inoue) & Billyken Kid vs 50 Funky Powers (Mohammed Yone & Quiet Storm) & Tadasuke

"Thank you Storm" (Tadasuke)

Osaka is Quiet Storm's adoptive city due his background in the indie promotions there. Although he says he will remain in Japan to wrestle (his roots are laid down firmly here with a young family), this will be the last time the Osaka crowd will see him in Noah. Next week will be his farewell at Korakuen Hall.

WINNER: Quiet Storm with the 50cm arm lariat on Masao Inoue (10 minutes, 42 seconds)
Picture
MATCH TWO
Global Junior League 2020 (Block D)
Daisuke Harada vs Chris Ridgeway

The bell rang, and no one wasted any time, especially since Harada had his "shark smells blood" face on. Early on in the match, it looked as if Harada was going to get counted out, but he managed to crawl back in. Very intense match, with very near split second pinfalls.

Although Ridgeway did not resort to torturing Harada's bare feet and stealing Harada's boots, he did have a struggle to keep him from reaching the ropes when he put all his weight on him during a submission. Harada was not going to give up. When Harada did break free, he did an incredible dive through the ropes.

WINNER: Daisuke Harada with the Frankensteiner (10 minutes, 56 seconds)*
(Added to my match of the year list 2020)

Daisuke Harada now advances to the semi finals at Korakuen Hall. His opponent would be decided next...

MATCH THREE
Global Junior League 2020 (Block C)
YO-HEY vs Hajime Ohara

A fast paced match between two different styles, the aerial of YO-HEY and the ground technical of Hajime Ohara. The venue had lots of YO-HEY chants, but the majority of fans are backing Ohara, as they feel it is his time now.

Fans were concerned about YO-HEY during the early stages of the match, as he clutched his chest and very audibly gave a choking cough (the type were you almost vomit) as he seemed to be struggling to breath, and given his recent history, it was worrying, but he hopefully will be okay. At least he seemed to be.

WINNER: Hajime Ohara with the Mui Bien submission (13 minutes,49 seconds)

Fans erupted at Ohara's win, firstly because as I have said above, they want him to get this chance, and secondly because we now get Daisuke Harada vs Hajime Ohara in the semi finals, and this is a match that I have said, Noah leave for special occasions.
One fan posted that he watched it in a parked car after cram school, and the three of them cheered when Ohara won.
Picture
Harada (who had been seconding YO-HEY) got in the ring and squared up to Ohara. They will met in the Korakuen Hall semi finals.

MATCH FOUR
The Sugiura Army (Takashi Sugiura, El Hijo de Dr Wagner Jnr, NOSAWA Rongai & Kinya Okada) vs Shuhei Taniguchi, Minoru Tanaka, Hitoshi Kumano & Junta Miyawaki.

This match was not televised, and I am afraid that I have very little information on it. I think the crowd were dazed by Harada vs Ohara to comment much. Takashi Sugiura got in the ring on entry, and held the belt in Taniguchi's face, later they got into a brawl with Sugiura punching him down on the fan seats.

WINNER: Takashi Sugiura with the Boston Crab on Junta Miyawaki (14 minutes, 5 seconds)

MATCH FIVE
Global Junior League 2020 (Block A)
Yoshinari Ogawa vs HAYATA

2020 is the Year of the Rat; and Noah's Ratboy showed early in the match that he was not above using the young trainees as human shields, to prevent HAYATA from somersaulting on him over the top rope. That said, the fifty-two year old Yoshinari Ogawa more than kept pace with the 32 year old HAYATA. This was an INSANE match, that had the crowd screaming.

Instead of working on HAYATA'S legs and feet, Ogawa went for a different tactic today, and worked on HAYATA's head and neck. Even when he got free and went for a kick, Ogawa struck as quick as lightning, and pulled him back in. HAYATA hung on in there, and refused to give up to Ogawa.

Ogawa almost made a tactical mistake by doing the fake pins, pinning HAYATA and then he himself breaking it, however, HAYATA got the upperhand after this and got Ogawa in a somersault outside the ring.

After taking about three or four moonsaults in a row (all of which Ogawa kicked out of), HAYATA then went for The Headache. Ogawa countered, HAYATA countered back, but Ogawa was too quick and Ogawa got the pin.

WINNER: Yoshinari Ogawa (18 minutes, 33 seconds)
(Added to my match of the year list 2020)

MATCH SIX
Global Junior League 2020 (Block B)
Kotaro Suzuki vs Dick Togo

This is the first ever singles match between Kotaro Suzuki & Dick Togo. It was a somewhat brutal technical match, both have similar body types, but you don't really realise it until you put them together. Kotaro Suzuki is 41, and Dick Togo nine years old at 50, but both pulled things out of the box like Suzuki's Tiger Driver off the apron being turned into a Runna by Togo, and Togo's amazing rope dive somersault.

WINNER: Dick Togo with the Diving Senton (15 minutes, 9 seconds)

The semi finals for Global Junior League will now be Hajime Ohara vs Daisuke Harada, and Yoshinari Ogawa vs Dick Togo.

Ogawa got in the ring after the match, made the "I'm watching you" gesture to Dick Togo, and then backdropped him. Having been beaten down by Ogawa previously, NOSAWA stayed well out of the way, and when Ogawa had gone laid the belt over Togo before helping him up and out.

MATCH SEVEN
AXIZ (Go Shiozaki & Katsuhiko Nakajima), Kaito Kiyomiya, Naomichi Marufuji & Atsushi Kotoge vs Kongoh (Kenoh, Masa Kitamiya, Yoshiki Inamura, Haoh and Nioh)

Go Shiozaki appeared wearing his special green clothing, which he wears for non AXIZ tag matches, whilst inside the ring, Marufuji was slapping Inamura for mouthing off at him. Kenoh kept pretty much to the back during the ring entries, Kiyomiya went unmolested, Shiozaki got glared at, and Marufuji's face was in Haoh's, and not Kenoh's. This was going to be a chaotic match with lots of melee fights breaking out both at ringside, and in the ring, with the referee trying to keep order and the seconds running everywhere.

There were lots of rare matchups today; Shiozaki vs Naoh, Marufuji and Haoh (Haoh was no match for him, although I think that Marufuji enjoyed the junior element of it, which is something Misawa used to love when fighting him), with Haoh almost getting knocked out at one point after he took a knee. Marufuji, Shiozaki and Kiyomiya were also seen talking together on the apron.

Kenoh interrupted Nakajima's rope choke on Haoh with kicks, Nakajima threw him out of the ring, and then when he did it again Kongoh attacked. Haoh later imitated him.

There was a good junior\heavyweight interaction, with Kenoh kicking Kotoge around. Nakajima and Kitamiya also faced off, with Kitamiya's burning hatred of Nakajima coming to the fore, when he no sold him.

Yoshiki Inamura and Go Shiozaki had a great interaction, as although Shiozaki battered him, Inamura is growing more resilient, and this will be one to watch in the future. Inamura fought like a demon until the end.

WINNER: Go Shiozaki with the strong arm lariat on Yoshiki Inamura (22 minutes, 31 seconds)
Picture
The fact that Kiyomiya does not have a belt has not lessened the rivalry between Kiyomiya and Kenoh. Kenoh started yelling at him outside the ring, and Kiyomiya stretched his arms out as if to dare him to attack him.

Whatever it was that Kenoh had been planning to do, didn't happen and he and Kongoh left the ring, Kenoh yelling angrily. All pretence of being a team now over, everyone left in the ring faced up to each other. There was no title challenge, but it was intense, with AXIZ seemingly suggesting they would be challenging Naomichi Marufuji and Masaaki Mochizuki for the GHC Heavyweight tag titles.

Once everyone left the ring (an excited Kaito Kiyomiya to give a backstage interview saying how much he loved Noah), AXIZ were alone. Katsuhiko Nakajima stole the camera, and filmed Go Shiozaki who gave a short speech to say that he was the centre of Noah.

AAA's Arez challenges Myron Reed for World Middleweight Championship February 1 in Philly...

Published Jan 23 2020 By Andre Corbeil

MLW today announced a World Middleweight Title Match: Myron Reed (champion) vs. Arez (representing AAA Lucha Libre) for MLW: FIGHTLAND at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia on Saturday February 1. The event will be a MLW FUSION TV taping for beIN SPORTS.

Tickets start at $15 at: www.MLW2300.com.

The AAA x MLW collaboration continues as Mexico's premier organization sends the cutting edge luchador Arez to challenge for Myron Reed's World Middleweight Championship.

Thrilling crowds with his innovative arsenal, Arez is one of the hottest luchadores to cross the border in years.

Overwhelming adversaries with cutting edge combinations, Arez is one of AAA's brightest stars of the new decade.

Mentored by the legendary Blue Demon Jr., Arez's speed and technique are a challenge for opponents to keep pace with.  Will that be the case for the defending World Middleweight Champion Myron Reed?

Entering the historic 2300 Arena for his 3rd world championship defense, the outspoken Myron Reed along with his cohorts in Injustice have recently turned MLW upside down.

Disrupting MLW events with impromptu protests, assaulting Brian Pillman in a scheme to enter the Opera Cup and knocking out Gringo Loco with brass knuckles, the trio have become a force to reckon with in MLW.

Now Reed faces his greatest challenge to date in Arez. Will Reed clinch his third successful defense or will Arez make history and bring the gold back home to AAA?

(NOAH) EVENT RECAP ~ GLOBAL JUNIOR LEAGUE 2020. KOCHI CULTURAL PLAZA KARUPATO SMALL HALL, JANUARY 23RD

1/23/2020

Comments

Picture
Noah arrived safely in Kochi after a seven hour journey. Atsushi Kotoge went for a run, and I think might have gotten a little lost as he had to ask for directions. At the venue, AXIZ and Kaito Kiyomiya took charge of the fanclub photo sessions, and AXIZ photobombed Kiyomiya by sneaking up on him and inserting themselves into the back of the picture of him with a fan (Nakajima looked a lot more awake than he did in a picture Ally took earlier).

Today's show is the last before Noah go to Osaka on Saturday, Saturday will decide the last four finalists, so a lot was resting on today's event. The show was sold out, with one fan saying that this was the first time they had been to see Noah in ten years.

I am afraid that I don't have too much information on today's show, so for some matches I have only been able to present only a line or two at most.

MATCH ONE
Global Junior League 2020 (B Block)
Kotaro Suzuki vs Haoh

"A stubborn father, and a crazy boy"

WINNER: Kotaro Suzuki with the Tiger Driver (9 minutes, 20 seconds)

MATCH TWO
50 Funky Powers (Mohammed Yone & Quiet Storm) & Junta Miyawaki vs Kongoh (Kenoh, Masa Kitamiya & Yoshiki Inamura)

Yoshiki Inamura stood with his arms crossed, watching 50 Funky Powers pull their pose.

WINNER: Masa Kitamiya with the Saito Suplex on Junta Miyawaki (9 minutes, 35 seconds)

Picture
MATCH THREE
Global Junior League 2020 (Block A)
HAYATA vs NOSAWA Rongai

NOSAWA decided he was going to get up to his usual tricks, but HAYATA realising that he was going for the easy victory in trying to keep him out of the ring by hitting him with a drop kick and then the Shining Wizard, decided to play him at his own game. Grabbing hold of him while NOSAWA attempted to get back into the ring, HAYATA held on to his leg and they both were counted out.

WINNER: Neither, double count out (6 minutes, 43 seconds)

Afterwards HAYATA stood with hands on hips and glared at NOSAWA before leaving. NOSAWA blamed the count out on the referee.
This now puts A block into a quandary as the winner of Yoshinari Ogawa vs HAYATA will go to the semi finals in Korakuen Hall, but if this comes to a draw then they will have a three way match...which no doubt will mean Ogawa and HAYATA will gang up on NOSAWA.

MATCH FOUR
AXIZ (Go Shiozaki vs Katsuhiko Nakajima) vs The Anti Wrestlers Alliance (Akitoshi Saito & Masao Inoue)

Masao Inoue submitted to a move which isn't actually a submission, when he quit during Nakajima's soccer-ball kicks.
One fan put it, "Nakajima! How could you? That old man has gout!"

WINNER: Katsuhiko Nakajima when Masao Inoue submitted to the Soccer Ball Kicks (11 minutes, 23 seconds)
Picture
MATCH FIVE
STINGER (Yoshinari Ogawa, Atsushi Kotoge & Chris Ridgeway) vs RATELS (Daisuke Harada, Tadasuke & YO-HEY)

Daisuke Harada looked grimly at Chris Ridgeway, who he will face in the finale of their Global Junior League, in Osaka on Saturday 25th, when the two teams clashed today.

WINNER: Daisuke Harada via schoolboy pin on Chris Ridgeway (16 minutes, 58 seconds)

Afterwards, Harada said that he had repaid Ridgeway for what happened yesterday, and so roll on Osaka.

MATCH SIX
Global Junior League 2020 (Block D)
Minoru Tanaka vs Nioh

The former tag team partners faced off with Nioh jumping Tanaka during his entry. After a fierce fight, Nioh struck with the Michinoku Driver beta, Tanaka managed to kick out, but fell to the Cancun Tornado.

WINNER: Nioh with the Cancun Tornado (14 minutes, 24 seconds)

MATCH SEVEN
Naomichi Marufuji, Kaito Kiyomiya, Shuhei Taniguchi & Hitoshi Kumano vs The Sugiura Army (Takashi Sugiura, El Hijo de Dr Wagner Jnr, Dick Togo & Hajime Ohara)

Naomichi Marufuji (minus the mask and the "Dr Marufuji Jnr" persona) did some comedy with El Hijo de Dr Wagner Jnr.

WINNER: Kaito Kiyomiya with the Tiger Suplex on Hitoshi Kumano (15 minutes, 25 seconds)
Picture
After the match, Kaito Kiyomiya (as Go Shiozaki, the GHC Heavyweight champion, was not in the main event), spoke on the microphone and said that this was the first Kochi event of the year. He said that as he would like to go beyond any other group in Japan or indeed in the Pro Wrestling world. Afterwards, he went around the ring and met fans.

ATTENDANCE: 200 (full house)

(NOAH) EVENT RECAP ~ GLOBAL JUNIOR LEAGUE 2020. ACROS FUKUOKA, FUKUOKA, JANUARY 22ND

"I will be the best fan in the world for you. As long as wrestling exists in the world, I will be with you. I swore that these past two days. Thank you Fukuoka. Thank you Pro Wrestling Noah".

Noah held the second night at ACROS Fukoka today. The attendance was down from last night (278 today compared to 325 yesterday), but those who went had a great time.

Masao Inoue arrived early to train before the event began. Takashi Sugiura (who has been dark for the past few days on Twitter, which is unlike him, so maybe his phone is broken or else lost), didn't stalk him while he trained with dumbells in blue spandex pants.

It seemed that Noah have had a lot of requests to throw paper tape for Quiet Storm at his last match at the end of the month, and Noah have addressed the issues on the website. Paper tape isn't allowed at many shows for a number of reasons - the cost of recycling it (Japanese businesses have to pay for this, it does not come on the state and as one fan said, they can hardly burn it), the cost of transporting it, the fact that it holds up matches, and the fact that the venues have to give permission, and a lot of them say no. So, not to be thwarted (but respecting Noah's wishes), fans are looking for other ways for the company to allow them to send off Quiet Storm - suggestions have ranged from the tubular balloons, to special stickers. Speaking of Quiet Storm, he has started selling his own merchandise.

Noah had their "Lucky Bags" on sale today. These bags are a fans delight, as they are filled with random merchandise. However, they are not available at all venues, which many fans say they would like them to be. There was also a lottery, and Kaito Kiyomiya was on autograph duty. A fan who had last seen him just over a year ago, compared him then to him now, and how he has changed and for the better.

The league is heating up, and fans are saying that they cannot predict who is going to win.
Picture
MATCH ONE
Quiet Storm vs Kinya Okada

As short as this match was, it is Quiet Storm's last Noah match in Kyushu.

WINNER: Quiet Storm with the 50cm lariat (6 minutes and 15 seconds)

MATCH TWO
The Anti Wrestlers Alliance (Akitoshi Saito & Masao Inoue) vs Minoru Tanaka & Junji Tanaka

Naturally as this is Masao Inoue in a match against Junjii Tanaka, Tanaka's butt found its way to Inoue's face, and Inoue also got a "mouthful of crotch" too...phone or no phone, no doubt Takashi Sugiura was somewhere laughing, and probably still is on the seven hour thirty minute journey to Kochi.

WINNER: Minoru Tanaka with the roll up pin on Masao Inoue (7 minutes, 34 seconds)
Picture
MATCH THREE
Global Junior League 2020 (Block C)
Atsushi Kotoge vs Hajime Ohara

As this is their first singles match since July 2015 at Global Junior League, and a rare match up in itself, a much calmer Kotoge versus Hajime Ohara, was a much anticipated match up.

WINNER: Hajime Ohara via submission with Mui Bien (14 minutes, 20 seconds)

Fans everywhere, at the venue or just following the Noah Twitter feed, were delighted with Hajime Ohara's win.

MATCH FOUR
STINGER (Kotaro Suzuki & Chris Ridgeway) & Naomichi Marufuji vs RATELS (Daisuke Harada, HAYATA & YO-HEY)

The two competitors from the volatile Block D, Daisuke Harada & Chris Ridgeway, where the main focus of this match. Ridgeway naturally started as he meant to go on, by being sarcastic to Harada when they started the match, by holding out his hand in a "No, I insist, you first" gesture.

YO-HEY was ganged up on by Misawa's boys (Kotaro Suzuki and Naomichi Marufuji), but he managed to strike back with one of his beautiful somersault dropkicks (it's frightening how agile YO-HEY is), while HAYATA later suffered a Marufuji high knee.

During a melee, Ridgeway pinned Harada...

WINNER: Chris Ridgeway with a sneak schoolboy pin on Daisuke Harada (12 minutes, 7 seconds)

Harada threw one of his famous tantrums on being sneak pinned, and a brawl broke out between the two, which had to be broken up by YO-HEY & HAYATA and Kotaro Suzuki. When they had been separated, Daisuke Harada sat against the ropes on one side of the ring and glared, while Ridgeway smirked at him from across the ring. They will meet for their Global Junior League match on the 25th January in Osaka...Osaka being Daisuke Harada's hometown.

MATCH FIVE
Kaito Kiyomiya, Shuhei Taniguchi, Mohammed Yone, Hitoshi Kumano & Junta Miyawaki vs KONGOH (Kenoh, Masa Kitamiya, Yoshiki Inamura, Haoh and Nioh)

Today was Kongoh's first outing as a team, and Kenoh inaugurated it by swearing at his opponents on Twitter, said he would show the difference to his opponents, "those fucking guys".

Mohammed Yone and Yoshiki Inamura started the match, (one fan called it "Afro vs Mohawk"), and Yone tried intimidation tactics like pulling the "Disco Fever" pose. It had no effect on Inamura. He's into punk. He does not fear disco (and being born in 1992,mercifully does not remember it).

Junta Miyawaki continues to grow, his technique is good, his timing perfect and all he needs is further experience.

WINNER: Kenoh with PFS (Diving Footstamp) on Junta Miyawaki (12 minutes, 49 seconds)

MATCH SIX
Global Junior League 2020 (BLOCK A)
Yoshinari Ogawa vs NOSAWA Rongai

As soon as the bell rang, Ogawa attacked NOSAWA'S arms, NOSAWA tried to get out of it, but Ogawa the master technician, knew just what to do, and there was no escape. Then Ogawa went to work on his feet, legs and knees. If NOSAWA had a joint to bend, then Ogawa found it. Well, NOSAWA did say he wanted a singles match with Ogawa, and this is pretty much how it is.

WINNER: Double count out (10 minutes, 29 seconds)
Picture
Furious, Yoshinari Ogawa started a brawl with NOSAWA, even stealing an umbrella from a fan and beating him with it. After this, NOSAWA stole the belt, wrapped it around his waist, and left for the back with streaming bloody nose, which in an odd way matched his face paint.

MATCH SEVEN
Global Junior League 2020 (B Block)
Tadasuke vs Dick Togo

Dick Togo might not have been in Noah for long, and this might be the third match he and Tadasuke have had together, but he knows him well enough not to shake the hand when Tadasuke offers it.

An intense match between the two, who both are heavyweights in junior bodies (Togo looks more the part than Tadasuke), for Tadasuke it is said that the Harada Bootcamp has really paid off in this match.

WINNER: Tadasuke with the 2PAC (12 minutes, 46 seconds)

MATCH EIGHT
AXIZ (Go Shiozaki & Katsuhiko Nakajima) vs The Sugiura Army (Takashi Sugiura & El Hijo de Dr Wagner Jnr)

The main event was described as "super luxurious" as it featured three heavyweight champions, (although one, Nakajima, does not want even to admit he is the W-1 champion), it was not for nothing he was termed as "Evil Sexy Hiko" today.

Go Shiozaki was said to have put on a lot of muscle tone and really bulked up. This was probably for the best as he and Sugiura tore into each other in an intense bout of chops, punches and elbows. Noah save their singles matches for a reason.

WINNER: Go Shiozaki with the Strong Arm Lariat (17 minutes, 48 seconds)

Uninterrupted by local boy Katsuhiko Nakajima (who was born in Fukuoka, but I believe grew up elsewhere), Go Shiozaki made a short speech to the crowd, thanking them for coming today and saying that he wants them to help spread Noah's intensity across Japan.
